"...[T]he "we're happy-go-lucky flesh-eating zombies, not scary ones" argument can be made in respect to the final song, "Zombies Don't Dance," which...pulls out the fun card. One also picks up similarities to the inherently fun Cake and even to King Kong at times when listening to Do the Zombie. It's kind of ... electroni-rock. Is that a genre? ...[T]he album, which was produced by Mike Peay and the band at Crestwood Studios, sounds exactly as it should - echoey and spooky. It's also pretty crystal clear in the headphones, which many "local" projects can't achieve. Kudos for quality. All in all, Do the Zombie is a fairly satisfying experience - perhaps it's musical flesh for your zombie within. If not, you can at least have fun reading the promotional material. You gotta like a band that includes stuff like this in its bio: "The band's almost animalistic consumption of Spam leaves room to question whether they themselves might be part zombie. However, OK Zombie insists that's simply not true, but rather only enjoy it because it comes with its own key. One thing is for sure, the music of OK Zombie will leave you shuffling your feet and reaching for the nearest meat by-product."

OK Zombie was conceived by Louisville, KY native singer/songwriter, Nick Peay. A fan of zombie movies, he started recording instrumental songs inspired by said movie genre as one of many side projects. After positive feedback from listeners, Peay decided to flesh out (no pun intended) newer songs with lyrics, and his latest release “Do The Zombie” was born.
Hints of progressive influences such as Beck, Radiohead, and Damon Albarn are subtly layered throughout this rock/electronica/funk/indie album, giving it free range to explore a more versatile catalog of songs than you’re used to hearing on one LP. OK Zombie gives you much more than you expect to hear from a local singer/songwriter; local radio stations such as Bellarmine Radio and WFPK took notice.
Over the past few months OK Zombie has not only evolved from instrumental side project to full lyricized album, but from a one man show to a full band, not to be missed live performance. Peay originally performed this album solo live playing multiple instruments and using loop pedals to achieve a full band sound.
As time went on he found fans in the now all star cast of local musicians that have joined the OK Zombie lineup: Nick Layman (drums), Ashley Burchett (keyboard and background vocals), J.P. Rawlings (bass) , Leigh Ann Yost (background vocals), and Nick's father Mike Peay (lead guitar). Their first live performance as a full band was the October 31st session of Louisville’s 91.9 WFPK Live Lunch. That live show made it clear that this side project was gaining momentum and on the right track.
Currently the band is promoting both OK Zombie releases: the instrumental "Horror Movie Soundtrack" and "Do the Zombie" through energetic live performances.
Peay is in the process of writing and recording new OK Zombie tracks for the next album, with a full band sound in mind, as the idea of this blue-collar monster, the zombie, continues to feed his vision (pun intended).
