"Neak - The Kids via StupidDope"

The up and coming, always impressive, Neak, is back today with an infectious new banger called “The Kids”. The track is a rather dope, addictive track that finds Neak again, effortlessly showing off his lyrical ways over top of something incredibly dope.
“The Kids” is driven by an array of dope synths and smooth drums that Neak destroys lyrically while providing a message. Check out the track after the jump and speak on it below. - Jesse James of Stupid Dope

Remember as a shorty you’d sit there and play Need for Speed for hours on end? Well, for me, one of most crucial elements to success on rounding those curves with the joystick was the perfect soundtrack jamming in the background. One song that definitely would’ve made it on my NFS playlist back then is today’s feature The Kids from Neak, his second notch so far this June following NRFS. On the production tip, Slot-A provides an uptempo, meth-influenced yet spacey production that could easily have landed on your favorite Drum & Bass artist’s next album, which Neak takes complete advantage of and lyrically runs all over, covering myriad topics, from promiscuous women to the dangers the next generation faces. If you like what you hear, The Kids was recently featured on T-Shirt Line RA-NYC’s mixtape, BRTH A N8TH, a video for the song is on the way, and Neak’s Paura/Amore project is due out later this year. - Ivan Ibarra of DJBooth.Net

One of the coldest from Chicago - Neak.

Everyone in this dude's circle is talented. I'm not saying them other "rappity rap" dudes don't deserve their shot, but how do you go to Chicago and overlook the body of work so many quality Chi artists have put out?

I'm just sayin'.

"[Video] Neak - A.M.N.R. via DJBooth.Net"

The weather is FINALLY warming up around Chicago, so this smooth new video single A.M.N.R. from native son Neak is highly apropos: Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have our first “cruisin’ in the whip” banger of the Whip Cruising season. Neak didn’t wait for the warm weather to get his cruise on, and it is evident in the heavy breath condensation that is visible in many of the outdoor shots in this emblematic Aaron Perkins, Jr. directed video. That doesn’t mean this song shouldn’t conjure up a feeling of excitement for the warmer days in which this song would provide the perfect soundtrack for a trip down Lake Shore Drive on a sunny afternoon. The soulfully-crafted, sample-laden production by J-Rell lays some lush groundwork for Neak’s fluid double-time delivery and brings life to the visual presentation overall. Be sure to check for Neak’s upcoming project Paura/Amore. Sadly, A.M.N.R. won’t be on it, but that just means we can expect more good things from Neak down the line. - Stephanie Vaughn of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Hollywood Talk f. Psalm One via OnSmash"

Once again, Neak proves that he is certainly a force to be reckoned with. With his latest track titled “Hollywood Talk,” the rapper goes into a heavy discussion about the way that record labels view artists without even giving them a chance. The descriptive cut features fellow MC Psalm One, as they aim to carve a relevant point of view into the minds of the masses. The production may sound smooth from Mulatto Patriot, but the artists provide a rarity of reality with their words, which gives them both the perfect opportunity to prove themselves. - Walker of OnSmash

Some recording artists are lucky enough to be natural businesspeople. For the rest, however, there are there are few experiences more draining than struggling to separate the truth from the B.S. as you navigate the murky waters of the music industry. Neak? He’d be happy if he never had to meet with another smooth-talking promoter or A&R in his life. On his latest promo single, the Chicago-repping reader fave pleads with the suits to “spare [him] that Hollywood Talk,” and give it to him straight, venting his frustrations over beatsmith Mulatto Patriot‘s shimmering keyboards. Fellow Windy City native Psalm One echoes the headliner’s disgust with industry phoniness on the guest tip. This joint isn’t attached to any forthcoming project but, as always, fans can stay tuned to The DJBooth for the latest from both of these talented Midwestern rhymesayers. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Can't Stop (I Don't Quit) Premiering on RubyHornet"

I picked Neak as one of Chicago’s most slept on artists a couple months ago. Today he makes an effort in making people wake up by releasing “Can’t Stop (I Don’t Quit)”, which is a formerly vaulted record that is produced by J-Rell. This cut didn’t make Neak’s most recent release, Love Greater// The Prequel, but is still very solid. Neak will be celebrating the release of the deluxe version of Love Greater on June 22nd with a party at Angels & Kings. Check out the flyer below. - Alex Frutcher of RubyHornet

"Neak Featured on RubyHornet's Sleepers: 7 Chicago Hip-Hop's Most Slept On"

Chicago Hip Hop has been getting a lot of light shone its way the last couple months, with the spotlight turned onto extra bright these last few weeks. The catalysts for this new attention have included the Treated Crew movement, Chief Keef, King Louie, YP, Rockie Fresh, Young Chop, Chance The Rapper, Kids These Days and other new artists that have made the industry finally catch onto the immense talent and creativity we have in the windy city. For all the artists that dominate the headlines, mentions, and blog posts, there are others that humbly create dope music without that much fanfare. Here are 7 sleepers in Chicago’s Hip Hop scene, artists who get raised eyebrows and head scratches when I drop their names at studio sessions, events or other spots when people ask me, ‘who’s dope that I might not know?’ Well, now you know. - Alexander Fruchter [DJ RTC] of RubyHornet

"Neak Featured on "The Promise" New Record, "SoundCatcher""

MC/Producer group The Promise (comprised of Squair Blaq and Mulatto Patriot) released the visuals to their newest track “Soundcatcher” today. The video was shot between Chicago and Poland and to be honest, I don’t envy them all out there in the cold, but the footage of Poland looks kinda ill. I may need to look into taking a trip out there soon.

The track also features artist Pugz Atoms as well as Chicago rapper Neak who has really been doing his thing over the past year. “SoundCatcher” is the debut video off the upcoming New Deal LP which is set to be released sometime during the Spring. - Ayara Of Soul Culture

"Interview W/ StupidDope"

The months leading up to this moment have definitely created an immense feeling of anticipation for NEAK fans, both long term and brand spanking new ones. Is it just me or has NEAK been dropping a track almost every two weeks or so? I’m not complaining at all though.
NEAK’s smooth, soulful hip hop style is not only refreshing but a delight to the battered and bruised hip hop fan’s ears… and it seems many others agree as his releases are featured on just about every respected music blog you can think of (the dope ones).
The Chicago native is back with brand new album Love Greater//The Prequel. Sponsored by DJ Booth, Prefix Mag AND Earmilk, you just know this project will be one to remember before even hitting ‘Play’. It does not disappoint. Make sure you go cop that.
Who is Neak? Neak is a product of Chicago; a humble/motivated individual who enjoys creating music. I’m all about bringing positive energy to whatever I do and love. Neak is someone who is definitely a lover of life! I’m surely a God-fearing man who gives you nothing but the truth of myself and others as I see it. I’m always striving to get better as an artist. I’ll never be perfect, but I’ll always strive for perfections as an artist/musician… I, also, was probably a comedian as well in my former life. *laughs* I love being a jokester!
I know you have a pretty musical background, how did that influence you growing up? Well, my father (Robert Kelly) had a strong background in the industry; as he was the lead singer of, “The Kelly Brothers,” but by the time I was born, he had retired from the industry). I grew up with Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, etc. blasting in the house. I think it gave me an old soul. *laughs* It definitely helped to shape my mindset in making music. Focusing on the world around me when it came to my writing concepts, thoughts, etc. There’s always something to write about; you just have to look around you. Even when there’s nothing around you to motivate you to write, there are always things going on in your soul to touch on.
You’ve just dropped your latest album, ‘Love Greater // The Prequel,’ Tells us a bit about it. Who’s on it? What was the inspiration behind it? First off, I have to give maaad props to Slot-A & Rashid Hadee who Executive Produced the album. They really gave me a dope musical canvas to work on. We really worked hard together on creating a sound for it that was unique, hip-hop, soulful, and welcoming. The Presenters/Sponsors of the album were Earmilk X DJBooth X Prefix Mag. I have to thank them as well for helping me push this album out to the masses and standing behind it. They have been supporting me since day one, and it was definitely a great feeling to get them behind it…
The concept ‘Love Greater’ was something I came up with to strive for a better way of life. A better way of being. I’m at a state in my life where the most important thing to me is to always live for a higher cause. Life is more than what we see (in my opinion). Live in your heart, and you’ll find something totally different. You’ll find a higher purpose, and that’s was the inspiration I took into the studio when creating the album. Every record is based of real life situations, and reactions to those situations (inner thoughts, actual actions, etc.). I went a little deeper into my own life (and the lives of others) more than I would normally do when writing for any other project/song. It features The ILLZ, MC ADAD, Sincerely Yours, Sam Trump & Charlie Coffeen (of ‘Sidewalk Chalk’), Caroline Davis on the Sax, and more!
You are taking a trip to a desert island. You can only take ONE item with you…what do you take? Ha! Only ONE item? Can that item be a woman?!? *laughs* I’m just kidding. Honestly, I don’t know what I would take. I would probably take an ipod touch with the LONGEST battery life in the world!
What can we expect over the next couple of months? Will you be performing in any festivals? Why should our readers cop, ‘Love Greater // The Prequel.?” I’m really going to focus on pushing my album as much as I humanly and possibly can! More videos, more interviews, shows, etc. I really feel good about this project, and I truly hope people can enjoy the message in it. That’s the goal right now…Whatever’s necessary to drive ‘Love Greater // The Prequel’ home to the world!
I’ll definitely be down at SXSW this year in Austin, TX. I still have some things in the works now for future festivals.
The readers should cop my new album because it’s honest, uplifting, and truthful music that really shows people a piece of themselves….to help us all see that we have a higher purpose. The best way (like Marvin Gaye said) to relate to people is to give them a piece of themselves in your music. I believe I (along with Rashid Hadee and Slot-A) achieved that, and I think people will appreciate the creativity and sincerity in the music. Plus the album is just flat out dope! Thank you to StupidDope for the interview.

"Interview W/ XL Urban Media"

Painting a beautiful picture with words is a skill that takes years of focus and patience to develop. It has to be created through overcoming life experiences and harsh obstacles. This is why artists who have made it through a lot are so talented at creating music that others can relate to. It’s not just about coming up with a beat that gets people nodding their heads, you gotta connect with people’s emotions and make them feel close to you. Coming straight out of Chicago, Neak is definitely an artist who knows how to paint a picture others can feel.

Neak is a pretty interesting guy. Coming from a family with a long line of musical success, it doesn’t come to much of a surprise that he would join in the ranks. One thing that stands out most about his music is how unique the sounds and messages are, which come from his diverse background. Neak has lived all over the United States, bringing a sample of each culture with him. For the most part however, Chicago is where Neak calls home. This is also something that has helped to grow his foundation and fan base due to his ability to get along with just about every personality you can think of.

Neak has collaborated with producers and artists like GLC, The ILLZ, Rashid Hadee, and Slot-A, he has also performed with artists like Little Brother, Keith Murray and many more. His latest album “Love // The Prequel” has been receiving great feedback, so much so that he plans to do more shows, interviews, festivals and much more. He even has a clothing line for the album coming out soon. What makes Neak so different from other soulful artists? Plainly and simply his love of having a voice for the people, which in his words means “having a voice that people can relate to and not one that’s focused on fame and money”.

Things like this are hard to come by these days. We all know plenty of people who think that they’ll be able to make a master come up and get rich overnight with music. We also know that fame and riches do not come that easily or quickly.

His parting advice to upcoming artists:

“If you want to make music, make sure that it is something that you truly love. There’s no such thing as a get rich quick scheme in real music. It’s a slow process to the top, so as long as you’re making music for the love and the passion, the people will see it. They will stay with you as long as you are true to yourself”.

Neak definitely has uplifting and positive music that anyone can enjoy and relate to. Check out the music video to his song titled “Big Dreamer” and let us know what you think in the comment section below! Find out more about Neak in the links below:

Neak is humbly one of the cleanest emcees in Chicago, and sadly overlooked. Admittedly, I haven’t given Neak as much shine as he deserves, or that matches his skills. Today he released his new album, Love Greater // The Prequel. The new project is 13 tracks deep, and produced by Slot-A and Rashid Hadee. It also includes “Big Dreamer”, which we saw the video for last week. You can preview and purchase the album via the link below. - Alexander Fruchter [DJ RTC] of RubyHornet

Let’s get passed it, I’ve been sleeping on the Chi-Town emcee Neak. That was until I got word that Rashid Hadee and Slot-A handled the production on his new project and decided to head on over to DJ Booth for a listen. Becoming a fan (mainly after the Watch Me Now video above), I decided to show some love. If you need more of a push, check Big Dreamer. "Neak Feat. NidaNasheeda - Big Dreamer [Video Premiere]"

Our main man Neak has come very close to the release of his latest album. The album will be carry the title Love Greater // The Prequel and is set to drop on the 28th. So, we brought you his last video, "Watch Me Now", which showcased a gritty urban outlook to match its equally gritty topic and content. And now he's just unleashed a video for his track "Big Dreamer", which has a very atmospheric sound that is easily visually represented and taking to a whole other level. Overall, this track has an optimistic vibe, considering the heavy content that Neak so eloquently puts into verbal poetry. Enjoy the video and check back on the 28th when we give you the details on where to cop the new album. - Montrey of Earmilk

"Neak X Mathien - Feet Premiering on DJBooth.Net"

You know what they say, if at first you succeed keep doing the same thing you did before, only with a different topic. (Ok, so maybe that’s not exactly how the saying goes, but you get the point.) Following the initial success of their Breaking Open the Head single, Chicago natives Mathien and Neak have combined forces once again for new release Feet, making its world premiere right here, right now. Singer/writer/producer Mathien gets his Bo Jackson on for Feet, playing on both sides of the proverbial ball, not only crafting a supremely funky, live drum driven beat for the duo to rap over, but also providing equally stylized sung and rapped vocals to keep the track moving. But that doesn’t make Neak just a hanger-on; the Ready to Go emcee can get pretty damn funky on the mic himself. While the duo have yet to announce a full collaborative project (hint, hint guys) fans can keep it locked to The DJBooth for more Mathien music and the release of Neak’s Love Greater // The Prequel album, hitting our pages for free stream and download soon. - Nathan S. of DJBooth.Net

"MTV Features Neak's New Video 'It's Your World'"

Neak's smash-hitting video Featured on MTV Networks (Prod. By Slot-A x INTLMC) - MTV Networks

"Interview With Soul Train w/ Ayara Pommells"

Chicago-born and raised hip-hop artist Dominic “Neak” Kelly is the son of Robert Lee Kelly of The Kelly Brothers. Neak is one of many indie artists who have ensured that their talent has not gone unseen or unheard. Neak’s music brings the flavour of the 80s without being dated and while maintaining both originality and relevancy. Having already featured on sites such as MTV, YORAPS, ONsmash and Vibemag, it’s only a matter of time before Neak becomes a household name.

Soultrain: You grew up in a musical family. What was your childhood like?

Neak: My dad and his brothers were in a group called The Kelly Brothers. They made a lot of music in the 50s and 60s and toured with major acts during their time period like Sam Cooke, The Isley Brothers, and Otis Redding. By the time I was born, my Father wasn’t recording music, but my parents were still avid listeners of music. I grew up on a lot of old-school R&B, soul, gospel, and blues records. It definitely gave me an “old soul.” My father didn’t really know that I was into creating music when I was a teenager, because I was also into pursuing a basketball career at the time that he supported heavily. Making music was a hobby to me (in his eyes), but it slowly became a passion that I couldn’t ignore. My brother was very heavy into producing, and he truly introduced me to creating music. I thank him with all my heart to this day!

Soultrain: What are your memories of Soul Train?

Neak: As a child, Soul Train was the extremely fun television show that showed and played all of the freshest music! We all wanted to dance and go down the Soul Train line when we saw that show on TV! Once I got older, I used to view many performances of artists who once appeared on Soul Train. My favourite performance to this date came from Marvin Gaye when he performed “Distant Lover”. I was also a fan of the super super dope voice and personality of Don Cornelius! He really created one of the most important platforms for musical artists, and helped serve as a gateway to larger audiences in the early stages of Soul Train for African-American singers and musicians.

Soultrain: Who were your biggest influences growing up?

Neak: My biggest influence as a political/social figure growing up was Malcolm X. I embraced a lot of his theoretical beliefs during his early years with the Nation of Islam, but I became much more intrigued by his philosophies in the later years of his life. He simply embodied what any person should, which is to fight for peace, justice, and dignity at all costs. Those ideals have influenced my music to this day! I’ve made a lot of references to his life within my music over the past year or so, and this is only natural to me. My biggest musical influences are Nas, Common, Marvin Gaye, Mos Def, Led Zeppelin, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Pink Floyd. There are many more artists out there (in the past and currently) that I love as well, but I would have to say that these individuals and groups influence me the most. Anyone that knows me can tell you how amazed I am at these individuals as artists. They all speak from a real sense of life that I can truly relate to. Marvin Gaye always said that the best way to get people into your music is to show them a piece of themselves in it. They have successfully done that with myself and millions of others around the world. That’s something that I always keep in mind when I’m writing and recording; to create everything from the heart. The heart will automatically create a message from a real place that most people have experienced and/or feel the truth in it regardless.

Soultrain: How would you describe your style of music?

Neak: Motivational. Honest. Uplifting. Abstract. For the People. The creativity within a powerful message is very important to me. I love creating a record that has a powerful message that is dope and vibrant musically. If there’s one thing that I don’t like to lose, that would be the groove of a song. No matter what you’re talking about, you have to give people something to hold onto. My music embodies the American Dream that is aware of its higher purpose – to live for God and his glory. The world is much bigger than your neighbourhood corner, city, state, and country. I keep that in mind heavily when I’m writing…

Soultrain: Your videos have been well received by many of the respected hip-hop blogs and websites. Why do you think that is?

Neak: I think it’s about the quality and creativity of the videos that bring them in to stand behind it so much. I give major credit to Cam Be, Domi V, and Eric Almond for helping me bring my vision to life through their amazing visual work. The conceptual ideas are very different than your everyday “on-the-rise” artists. I’ve made it to major television networks, such as MTV, from the quality visuals that they produced. Hip-hop blogs and websites not only respect artists with a huge fan base; they always respect dope work. Some major sites poste - Ayara Pommells of Soul Train

"Neak - Ready To Go ('Round The Way Girl) [Video] via DJBooth.Net"

Chicago emcee Neak follows his DJBooth-approved Ready to Go single with some smoothly romantic visuals. Fans will find even more dopeness on Neak’s upcoming project, Love Greater // The Prequel, presented by The DJBooth, Earmilk and Prefix Mag and due to drop in early 2012.

"Neak - Ready To Go ('Round The Way Girl) [Video] via Earmilk"

Neak is prepping to release his latest project, Love Greater // The Prequel, and he has been dropping a new track/video every few weeks. The last video release was for "Watch Me Now" which went on to explain Neak's own belief in oneself. And, now he's back with another video treatment for the track "Ready to Go ('Round the Way Girl)" where he showcases his softer side. But, once again, you get production from Slot-A so you know it's still going to have that raw sound yet still appealing to the ladies. Also, one of the best things about this video is that you get a beautiful window into Neak's Chicago hometown.
Enjoy and keep a lookout for his next video which will be exclusively premiered right here at EARMILK. - Montrey of Earmilk

"Neak - Ready To Go ('Round The Way Girl) [Video] - Premiere via Prefix Mag"

Like "Watch Me Now" before it, the video for "Ready to Go ('Round the Way Girl)" serves as a promotion for Neak's forthcoming new project, Love Greater // The Prequel. It's also a chance for the Chicago rapper to show off another side of his personality. Whereas "Watch Me Now" and other tunes have been more personal and fiery flow-wise, "Ready to Go" is a breezy, romantic tune with equally relationship-heavy visuals to boot. Director Domi, of PXLMND, captures the vibe of the track and Neak's hometown, which looks gorgeous here. If you ever wanted to visit the Windy City, these visuals just might be what push you to finally book that flight. Nothing says “ill” like a Snotty Noze. On his latest promo single, Chi-town fave (and freestyle series alum) Neak enlists fellow Windy City representatives Scheme, Sincerely Yours and Slot-A to drop bars so sick that listeners just might catch something. Trumaine produces, serving up a stark synth-handclap groove. While this joint isn’t set for inclusion on the project, those digging it should keep it locked for release details on Neak’s forthcoming double-EP, Love Greater // The Prequel as well as tuning into MTVu’s Freshman Series to peep Neak’s latest video, It’s Your World. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"A3C Featuring Neak - Celebration of Life's ILLZ w/ GLC & Trinity"

A newcomer to the A3C Festival this year is Neak, a hip hop artist from Chicago who represents for a majority of artists from the Midwest who are strictly dedicated to lyricism.

Neak has been hard at work in the lab, cooking up 2 EPs as part of his Love Greater/The Prequel project that will be released soon – the first produced by fellow Chicagoan in Slot-A for Neak’s and his second will be produced exclusively by Rashid Hadee will be coming out later this year.

Check out this new track from Neak featuring GLC and Trinity which will be featured on his upcoming Love Greater/The Prequel EP and stay tuned for more coming from the Chicago rapper. - Justin Gillespie of A3C

"Neak Featuring GLC & Trinity - Celebration of Life's ILLZ on DJBooth.Net"

For most people, hardship and suffering are things to be avoided at all costs; for artists like up-and-coming emcee Neak, however, it’s all grist for the lyrical mill. Thus, the Windy City fave’s hooked up with GLC and Trinity for A Celebratioun of Life’s ILLZ, a Slot-A-produced banger which finds the collaborators honoring life’s downs as well as its ups. Digging it? Keep it locked for release details on Love Greater // The Prequel, a forthcoming project consisting of two EPs—one entirely produced by Slot-A, the other by Rashid Hadee. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

If the title of this unreleased joint brings Kanye to mind, it’s for good reason: Rashid Hadee‘s instrumental was originally submitted to West for use on Graduation (though, sadly, not featured on the LP). Though this cut isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, those who like what they’re hearing can keep it locked for the latest news and tunes from both Neak and Hadee. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"2011 Artist Profile For A3C Festival (Atlanta, GA.)"

If your father performed alongside Funk & Soul legends like James Brown & Sam Cooke, and your older sibling was deep into Hip-Hop production, chances are being a product of your environment meant only one thing…

Following the path his family set before him, Chicago-based Hip-Hop artist Neak draws vivid verbal portraits which find inspiration in the spirit of 1980’s Hip-Hop & U.S. culture. The “War on Drugs,” failing Reaganomics, and increasing violence within poverty stricken areas only strengthened the resolve of the then fledgling Hip-Hop movement, and it’s this concept of perseverance and reclamation that guides Neak’s artistry.

In 2009, Neak was recognized by Writer’s Block Club Magazine as one of the “Top 25 Hip-Hop Artists You Should Know” along with up-and-coming Chicago MCs like Ang13, Mikkey Halsted, Sam I Am, and others. He has released two volumes in his ’84 mixtape series (8000 total downloads), both of which are hailed as “underground classic[s] with an electric/soulful feeling, and rooted in the core of hip-hop.” Currently Neak is fresh off a release of his newest project “Neak Rock,” a Pete Rock tribute album presented by DJBooth.Net, Fake Shore Drive, Refined Hype, Prefix Mag & YNotMyDream; which has currently reached over 40,000 downloads and counting!

Naming Nas, Mos Def, Common, Lupe Fiasco, MF Doom, Elzhi, Jay-Z, etc. as his main lyrical influences, Neak preserves the aesthetics of real Hip-Hop; authenticity, originality, excellence all evoke a heartfelt emotion for listeners of his music. Neak is looking to tour in support of his Neak Rock album and future upcoming projects.

What Are you Working on These Days – Do You Have Any Projects in the Works?

I am currently working on two albums as of now. One album that I’m working on will be Executive Produced by Mulatto Patriot entitled, “Jazz Supreme”, and the second one will be Executive Produced By Slot-A and Rashid Hadee entitled, “Love Greater” (who will also handle all of the production for the album).

I am also working on a clothing line production with Johnny Bravado x Lonnie Edwards of MBDecor x Bear.illa.

Have Your Performed at the A3C Before? Do You Have Any Good Stories to Tell?

This is my first time performing and attending A3C. I am very excited to be apart of it. I’ve heard nothing but great stories about it, and I’m excited for this experience and to be around great talented individuals alike!

What Are You Looking Forward to at This Year’s A3C? What Should A3C Fans be Looking Forward to See from Your Performance?

I’m looking forward to networking with great musicians/artists from all over the world. I am also looking forward to meeting artists, producers, website owners, etc. that have supported my work! I am personally grateful for them doing so. I want A3C fans to know when they witness a “Neak performance,” they will get my heart, body, and soul. I’m here to give the people something exciting to look forward too; honest and straight-forward music from the spirit!

Is there Anything Else A3C Fans Need to Know?

I want A3C fans to know that I am very honored and grateful to have the chance to display my God-given musical abilities in front of them. Everyone doesn’t have the opportunity to be apart of something great as A3C. Just know (for the fans) that I’m honored…

Discography:

84 Vol. 1 (Mixed By DJ Shotime) – Presented By Core DJs

84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco) – Presented By DJBooth.Net

Neak Rock – Pete Rock Tribute Album – Presented By DJBooth.Net, Fake Shore Drive, Prefix Magazine, Refined Hype, YNotMyDream

"Neak - Jockin' Premiere on DJBooth.Net"

The problem of hatin’ may get all the press, but no less prevalent in today’s game is Jockin’, a related phenomenon in which talented artists are subjected to egregious levels of imitation and obsessive attention. Following in the footsteps of Tone Tone and Jay-Z, Mike Schpitz does his part to raise awareness on installment #7 in the ongoing #illRaps series. Here, the upbeat chopped-soul boardwork (complete with an entertainingly obscene sampled hook) of Slot-A sets the stage for a little lyrical venting from the freestyle series contributor and two fellow jock-ees. After the headliner vents his frustration with his peers’ unseemly behavior, Windy City neighbor Sincerely Yours and reader fave/fellow freestyle alum Neak chime in to commiserate, seasoning their verses with engaging imagery and punchlines: “You ready for the recipe? You wouldn’t understand, how to make these fellas jelly every time they hear me jam.” While I have a feeling this banger won’t dissuade the jockin-inclined, it will undoubtedly succeed in its secondary mission: to keep fans coming back for future entries in their weekly #illRaps series. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Groove Theory Premiere on Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)"

Neak & Sincerely Yours team up once again with Slot-A to continue this weekly illRaps series and they earn another feature with “Groove Theory”. This one has a feel-good vibe to it, especially with Neak’s throwback sound and delivery, the woman on the chorus, and another fresh Slot-A production. The highlight of the track though is the slick set of bars spit by Sincerely Yours on the last verse. He grabbed my attention from the very beginning of his rhymes, which I had to go replay right after. From top to bottom, I think a lot of people will be feelin’ “Groove Theory”, but I would still rank it a tier below last week’s all-caps fav: “Gotta Be Something”. Check out the “Groove Theory” above though and hear for yourself. - Sgt. Tibs of Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)

"Neak - We On It Premiere on Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)"

Four Chicago names you should be familiar with already here on GWHH: Sincerely Yours, Slot-A, Mike Schpitz, and Neak combine for a new internet release called "We On It". They borrow a 9th Wonder production for their collective backdrop and what I noticed right away was that each of their styles match the production pretty naturally. As for who gets the crown for best verse... *scratches head*... Mike Schpitz. His consistent and seemingly effortless punctuation gives him the slight edge. I had to listen one more time intently just to decide on the answer, meaning... there's no weak link so peep this dope collab above. - Sgt. Tibs of Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)

"Neak x Slot-A - Raise Yo' Glasses Featured on Ruby Hornet"

Neak is here with the first installment of his #IllRaps series, "Raise Yo' Glasses" featuring Slot-A. These two lace Pete Rock's late nineties gem, known as originally Strong Arm Steady's "Makings of You" but ultimately the G.O.O.D Friday classic "The Joy". Hit the jump for the stream and download, and be on the lookout for new visuals for Neak's "You Gave Me Life" off his PR tribute Neak Rock presented by DJBooth.net. - Sean CK of Ruby Hornet

"Neak - Means The World - Refined Hype (LA)"

I'm going through more mood swings than a pregnant woman today - and I've lived with a pregnant woman, so that really means something. Just twenty minutes ago I was banging that new Ab-Soul and had decided to devote the rest of today to bangers. And then we dropped that old school Kweli piece and suddenly all I want to hear is ill underground shit. So....ill underground shit it is.

The fifth installment in the #illRaps Series, "Means the World" finds F.A.B.L.E. x Neak x Rashid Hadee x Slot-A x Sincerely Yours x Mike Schpitz x NidaNasheeda all going in over a subtly soulful beat from Rashid Hadee. Between this and yesterday's 9th Wonder & Phonte joint, we're getting closer to a true lyrical rennaisance everyday. - Nathan S. of Refined Hype

"Neak Featured on The Primeridian's "Chi-Town's Finest" via DJBooth.Net"

There are few bigger ponds, where hip-hop is concerned, than the Windy City. Thus, when you claim to be one of Chitown’s Finest, you’re obliged to back that assertion up with some hella-fide skills. Making its world premiere in the Booth, the latest single from The Primeridian finds Race and Simeon Viltz doing just that, asserting, and justifying their elite status in the Chi. Booth-approved producer Rashid Hadee‘s contributes an understated, atmospheric synth/bass backdrop that leaves the duo maximum room to shine on the mic – and shine they do, lacing the beat with laid-back yet vivid accounts of the hustle. Joining them on the guest tip are a few Booth-acclaimed neighbors: freestyle series alum Neak and rapper-producer Slot-A rep their city to the fullest, and Hadee steps out from behind the boards to deliver the coup de grace. It’s hard to argue with a cut this packed with high-quality rhymes but, as always, the final say is yours: are Primeridian and their cohorts deserving of the record’s lofty title? Listeners leaning toward the affirmative can hear plenty more where this came form on the crew’s CosmRoks (of The Hip Hop Project)-mixed, Booth-co-sponsored Da Crack a Dawn LP, set to hit our front page soon! - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Neak Featured On "Live It Again" from Mulatto Patriot via DJBooth.Net"

Previously heard lending his boardwork to Neak‘s Film School, producer Mulatto Patriot makes his first foray into the solo spotlight with promo single Live It Again. Here, the headliner’s breezy yet driven chopped-sample beat bangs in the background as Neak, ProbCause and Mike Schpitz (all Windy City natives) share some lyrical reflections on the hustle. Mulatto Patriot hasn’t made any announcements regarding a forthcoming solo project, but Booth readers will, of course, be first to know when that changes. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Mathien x Neak - Breaking Open The Head Premiere on DJBooth.Net"

Got any mind-altering substances handy? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating the use of psychedelic drugs, I’m just saying, if you want to fully understand the first collaborative feature from emcee Neak and singer/songwriter/producer Chris Mathien... yeah, you might actually want want to take some psychedelic drugs. Inspired by (and named after) Daniel Pinchbeck’s early-2000s book on modern shamanism, new promo single Breaking Open the Head finds the Chitown natives embarking upon a cosmic journey into the depths of their psyches—and what they find there is far-out, to say the least. Mathien handles production duties, blending classic psychedelic-rock guitar riffage and live percussion into a trippy backdrop for some surreal lyrical imagery; expanding upon the record’s title, he recounts “I watched my cranium open up wide and various animals are re-released into the wild.” His partner-in-rhyme (a freestyle alum) gets metaphysical on the front, inviting listeners to “...open your soul and find your joy within a higher love.” This hallucinogenic banger isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, but those digging it can keep it locked to the Booth for all the latest from both collaborators. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

The head nod inducing MC from Chicago, known as Neak, has done it again. He’s released a dope new video for the track “It’s Your World” with obvious shout-outs to Nas. Now, Neak obviously has his rhyming skills zoned in but you must give props to the production done by Slot-A & INTMC. They give you that contradictory new-school nostalgia feel. "Neak - Everything I Am - Premiere on Kevin Nottingham"

Here is new music from Chicago native Neak with Rashid Hadee on the production. There’s a backstory to this particular track, but I’m going to let Neak tell it. Link underneath.

The story behind this record is intriguing…. This beat was submitted to Kanye West (@KanyeWest) for consideration to be placed on his “Graduation Album (2007).” Long story short, he didn’t end up using this record. 4 years later, it ends up in the hands of me via Rashid Hadee! Hadee also made a nice flip to the production at the end of the song that I feel you all will enjoy! - Thomas of KevinNottingham.com

"Neak - You Gave Me Life Feat. Simeon Viltz (of The Primeridian) - Video via Prefix Magazine"

In case you missed it when we helped premiere it last fall, Chicago-based rapper Neak dropped off a slick mixtape called Neak Rock that paired up his rhymes with beats from Pete Rock. And one of the instant highlights on the project was undoubtedly "You Gave Me Life." The jazzy, chilling cut depicts "the harsh realities of children being raised in society without the love, guidance, and care from a father figure," Neak explained. Director Cam Be's visuals drive the rapper's point home as the main character, an aspiring MC, can feel the ghost of his father watching over him. It's a moving, albeit slightly depressing, viewing experience that helps to shed light on a serious issue that tends to be overlooked. - Andrew Martin Of Prefix Magazine

"Neak - You Gave Me Life (Premiere) - Press Release - (Review)"

For those of you unaware of the name adorning this post, I'll take a moment to fill you in quickly. Over the past few years, Neak has worked to build up a strong buzz in the hip-hop underground, especially in his native Chicago. Several bigger hip-hop sites have noticed his talents, too, such as DJ Booth. And it's that site that introduced Neak to us at Prefix, which lead to our joining forces to release his forthcoming project, Neak Rock. The mixtape pairs the Windy City MC up with classic beats from living hip-hop legend Pete Rock.

While I will admit that anyone can at least sound "good" over a Pete Rock production, Neak takes this to a whole new level. You hear that especially on this latest leak and Prefix Premiere, "You Gave Me Life," which features additional trumpet from Simeon Viltz. The track bounces with equal parts head-nodding, jazzy beauty and deep, introspective lyricism -- one hell of a combination.

Don't be surprised if you keep this one on repeat until Neak Rock drops on Oct. 26. You can stream "You Gave Me Life" below. - Andrew Martin of Prefix Mag (NY)

"Neak Exclusive Interview w/ Keeynote.com - Press Release"

Q: On "It's Like That" off your new release "Neak Rock" you talk about an era "Where The Source was The Bible and Bishop was an idol." What were your fondest memories of Hip-Hop as a child?

N: My fondest memory of Hip-Hop growing up was watching my older brother (Mischief) explaining to me what music meant to him from his point-of-view and helping me shape my perception on how I view, create, and listen to music today. Being introduced to albums such as Nas - Illmatic, De La Soul - Stakes Is High, ACTQ - Midnight Maurauders, Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca and The Soul Brother, Common - Like Water For Chocolate, Notorious B.I.G. - Ready To Die at such a young age helped establish the mindset on how I approach my own music and how to bring my message "effectively" to the people. He was hard on me from the jump on being creative, and I appreciated that greatly. Thinking back to when I wrote my first 16 verse (well, more like 18 bars until I understood how too), recording my first record was the most amazing feeling in the world. I felt as if I was establishing my voice amongst legends (even though I have a long ways to go).

Q: You've said that Nas is one of your biggest influences. If you appeared on the "Wake Up Show Anthem (1994)" along with Nas, Organized Konfusion, Saafir, and Ras Kass who would come out on top?

N: This question is toooooooootallly unfair Keeynote!!! That's interesting. I have faith in my lyrical ability, flow, rhyme scheme, etc. but we're talking about straight-up spitters here! Let's just say I would be able to "hold my own" here...

Q: You wrote "Neak Rock" in just 7 days. Is that indicative of your usual writing process or does it vary on the project?

N: The writing process for Neak Rock was unusual, because of how quickly it was completed. I normally don't write records at that pace, but yet again, I didn't think too hard on the song structure, lyrical content, etc. for Neak Rock. When I say I just wrote, man, I just wrote! I wrote down whatever came to mind at that given point in my life to catch the absolute "rawness" of myself and my feelings. I would like to believe that I don't have a round-about time frame on when I complete projects. It really depends on my vibe, what messages that I am trying to convey, and how much thought I place into my concepts for a project.

Q: You've spoken highly of east coast favorite The ILLZ in previous interviews. Have you guys chopped it up and is there a collaboration in the works?

N: Yeah most definitely. I got introduced to The ILLZ through FynesS last year at a show in NY when I was created/shooting (along with Eric Almond; Director) the music video for "Make It" from 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco - Presented By DJBooth.Net). We kept in contact from there and have spoken briefly about collaborating on a record during "The Black Out Show" @ Angels & Kings in New York w/ The Hype NY, Ground Lift Media, LLC., Shameless Mgmt, etc. I guess we're just waiting on the right time and right record to do the joint, but it is definitely in the works.

Q: Here's a scenario: You're on a ten city concert tour with Common, Nas, and Andre 3000. You start the tour as the opening act and end the last 3 shows as the headliner. What elements of your stage show make you the headliner on a tour filled with legends?

N: If this situation EVER happened in life, I'd probably pass out brother lol! Those three guys you just named (which happened to be three of the most prolific and creative artists that I've ever listened to) are straight-up classic *sidenote.* The most important element to having a great stage show (in my opinion) is "connection." How well are you connected to the people musically will determine how connected you will be with them on stage. You have to engage the crowd, talk to (not at) the people who believe in you watching your show during your performance, show people your "personality," and leave all your blood, sweat, and tears out there on that stage for the people to witness. People believe in passion, substance, effort, and how much "you" believe in you...The people won't rock with you if you don't rock with yourself (musically). - KEEYNOTE of Keeynote.com

"Neak Opens Live For Major Recording Artist "Keith Murray""

Despite a few run-ins with the law, Keith Murray is still regarded as one of the most iconic figures in hip-hop. Both his solo career and work with the Def Squad (a collaborative effort with Redman and Erik Sermon), have helped define an era of what critics have called "classic New York city style rap." Check the living legend for $15 at the hip-hop-friendly Subterranean. (J. Min) - Jeff Min of Centerstage Chicago

"Neak Rock (Pete Rock Tribute Album) - Press Release - Chicago Now"

Neak has arrived with his tribute to Pete Rock: the cleverly titled new mixtape, Neak Rock. 12 classic Pete Rock productions all get some new rhymes from Neak and some Chicago guest stars like Add-2, Simeon (of Primeridian), Mike Schpitz, Slot-A, and more. I was bobbin my head from the very beginning, but I would say the latter half of the tape is my favorite, starting with the previously featured "What You Know About". Other standouts include "Leaving My Lifetime" and the tape's conclusion over Nas' "The World Is Yours". Overall, Neak's more subdued, chill flow matches the vibe of Pete Rock productions pretty well and this is a tape that you can sit back and vibe with and one that I am sure you will appreciate more the more you listen to it. Neak Rock will definitely appeal to Pete Rock fans, old school hip hop fans, heck - all fans of hip hop. I applaud the concept and creativity and it is one to surely take a listen to above. (UPDATE: Just saw that Neak is trending in Chicago! Nice.) Enjoy! - Sgt. Tibs of Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)

"Neak - The Coming Of Nas - Press Release - (Review)"

Neak says that this is the last #illRaps track (for now though). But hey, it has been 3 months of heat and "The Coming Of Nas" is a fitting send-off of sorts as Neak pays homage to the living legend. Nas is clearly an influence to many of the rappers out today and Neak is no exception, but he takes to this Slot-A production and breaks down his personal thoughts over wax of one of his favorites. I love that last verse especially, which references many song titles from Nas' library that inspired a quick rewind about halfway through to make sure I caught 'em all. And overall, I love seein' artists on the come-up spit their respects to the artists that helped influence and pave the way for them, be it on a record or in an interview. Like I said above, this may be the last of the #illRaps series for the moment, but a track like this is a quality conclusion that leaves a lasting impression while the series goes on hiatus. - Fuse TV via Sgt. Tibs of Chicago Now (GoWhereHipHop)

"Neak - The Small Things - Press Release - (Review)"

Booth readers who enjoy hanging out in the self-help aisle of their local bookstore are undoubtedly familiar with Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, a slim ‘97 bestseller detailing strategies for beating stress. Those who, like yours truly, can’t read the words “inspirational literature” without breaking into a cold sweat (I swear I only know that title because my mom owns a copy), can now get the same insights in a fresher – and much quicker – hip-hop format courtesy of Chi-town emcee Neak and his collaborators, Sincerely Yours and Rashid Hadee. Installment #11 in the freestyle alum‘s #illRaps series, The Small Things finds Hadee slicing-and-dicing some pensive soul samples as his on-the-mic cohorts drop bars packed with picturesque motivational wisdom, acknowledging that their lives aren’t all sunshine and roses but emphasizing that they’re not about to let any amount of of struggle distract them from achieving their lofty ambitions. Does this determination-drenched banger leave you feeling rejuvenated? If so, keep it locked you-know-where for more ill selections from Neak and company in the weeks ahead. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Film School - Press Release (Review)"

Ever since Chicago-born emcee Neak dropped Make It for the Booth community to rock to, we’ve all had our eyes (and ears) fixed to see what kind of new work would come from this burgeoning hip-hop genius. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long before we were introduced to the stellar Dear Sky and now his latest offering, Film School. On Film School, Neak builds the track with his signature mellow flow while retaining a sense of pride easily heard in his delivery. The jazz-driven, soothing quality of the cut takes fans and listeners to another realm thanks to producer Mulatto Patriot, who’s managed to create a melody that won’t soon leave our heads. Film school made Steven Spielberg famous and it might do the same for Neak - give this track a couple of listens and see if you don’t catch yourself humming it for the rest of the day. Look out for Neak’s DJBooth.net-hosted album 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco) due out on March 2, and an exclusive In the Mix interview, dropping this Friday! - Matty K. of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Dear Sky - Press Release (Review)"

Some songs can be neatly summed up in just a few short sentences; Make It up-and-comer Neak‘s latest mixtape leak (making its world premiere right here in the Booth!) is definitely not one of them. Dear Sky finds the Windy City native putting a decidedly left-of-center spin on a oft-discussed lyrical theme: the relentless grind that comes with being an up-and-coming artist. The allusive, fragmentary rhymes in which Neak expresses his determination to take over the game are backed by some equally unconventional boardwork – frequent Bullet collaborator Slot-A delivers a beat that flouts expectations at every turn, from the twin intros to the double-time bridge. (By the way, can anyone I.D. the sample(s) for me?) The result is a track that may sound disjointed the first time around, but makes more sense with each repeat spin. Digging Neak’s cerebral style? You can hear more on the artist’s DJBooth.net-sponsored ‘84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco) mixtape, set to hit our front page March 2. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

"Neak - Make It - Press Release (Review)"

Chosen as one of the “25 Rappers From the Chi You Should Already Know” by local magazine W.B.C., up-and-coming emcee/first-time Booth featuree Neak has been making some substantial waves in the Windy City (or “The City of Wind,” as his MySpace bio calls it), and his buzz only seems to be growing bigger. On this new mixtape cut, making its world premiere right here in the Booth, Neak lets listeners in on what makes him tick, spitting about his unstoppable drive to Make It in the music game, and the self-doubt that accompanies his lofty ambitions: “I’m prepared to take flight/Lookin’ at my life like, ‘Damn, it’s worth a lot right now,’ / I can’t let this sh*t bring me down.” Beatsmith Fyness matches the headliner’s reflective yet determined tone on the production tip, backing the track with a sampled combo of melancholy guitar and driving percussion. If you think Neak’s got what it takes to make it to the top, download a copy of his forthcoming 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco) mixtape when it hits the ‘net in February 2010. - Richard of DJBooth.Net

We at Prefix -- along with DJ Booth, RefinedHype, YNotMyDream, and FakeShoreDrive -- are proud to present the latest project from talented up-and-comer Neak. With Neak Rock, he has crafted a free street album featuring production solely from living hip-hop legend Pete Rock. The 12 tracks on here also include some assistance from the rapper's close pals, such as fellow rising Windy City native Add-2, horns player Simeon Viltz, and several others. You likely heard Viltz's smooth playing on "You Gave Me Life," a track we premiered last week that found Neak displaying his more introspective side. Based off the strength of that cut alone, we wouldn't blame you for skipping this entire paragraph to just download the album already. We hope you enjoy Neak Rock as much as we have. - Andrew Martin of Prefix Magazine / Potholes In My Blog

"Neak Pays Tribute On Neak Rock - Press Release - Refined Hype (LA)"

Want to know if someone's a true hip-hop head? Here's a simply test. Ask them to name the greatest producers of all-time. If they don't mention Pete Rock, they don't know what they're talking about. And if they do name Pete, they're probably a citizen of RefinedHype nation. And that, friends, is why Neak is one of the finest citizens of RefinedHype nation.

On his new mixtape, "Neak Rock", the Chicago emcee showcases some of his lyrical prowess over vintage instrumentals from the man who gave us classics like "T.R.O.Y.". Joining Neak to pay tribute are vocalists Add-2, Mike Schpitz, Drunken Monkee and many more, along with mixing and mastering courtesy of Mulatto Patriot. In addition to yours truly, "Neak Rock" is presented by the fine folks at the mothership, PrefixMag, YNotMyDream and FakeShoreDrive. - Nathan S. of Refined Hype

"Neak Jumps "In The Mix" With DJBooth.Net (Exclusive Interview)"

Any hip-hop fan will attest to the fact that originality is a must in order for an artist keep a solid fan base and appeal to a wide variety of tastes. In that respect, and in many others, Chicago native Neak isn’t sleeping on the job. As he prepares to astound us yet again with his upcoming DJBooth.net-hosted project 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco), we can be sure that the March 2 release will be worth the wait.

Neak found and fell in love with music at a very young age. Having been born to Robert Lee Kelly of the r&b/gospel group The Kelly Brothers, he quickly began experimenting with musical interests of his own. At only 17-years-old, Neak, along with his brother Mischief, released their first underground project together, paving the way for future successes. The work put into that early project resulted in Neak becoming the recipient of boast-worthy accolades, such as being included in Writer's Block Magazine's “Top 25 Hip-Hop Artists You Should Know". He continues to build a name for himself as each new song he releases (Make It, Dear Sky, Film School) reveals another flavor that makes up his exceptional talent.

In this exclusive, five-question interview, Neak tells us how he stands out from the crowd, what he wants us to learn from his music, and what we can expect to hear with the release of 84 Vol. 2.

Your music has a sound that’s rarely heard in today industry. Do you make a conscious effort to set yourself apart from the pack, or does that come naturally?

Sometimes I make a conscious effort to do so and sometimes I don't. I'm a big fan of creating a situation (lyrically) that people can take many different messages just from something that I've stated... the ultimate goal for me is to speak from the heart and enjoying the art form. I love being creative and witty. It's just part of who I am as a person and as an artist. If I can make you find a different emotion and/or thought every time you listen to my records, then I've done my job.

What do you want your fans to learn and take away from the experience of listening to your music?

I want the people to appreciate the sincere emotions that I convey on my records. There's nothing about my music that I will falsify or enhance in order to fit a certain mode. There will never be a situation when you are listening to a Neak record that you will get a sense of "dishonest emotion." I just want the people to respect and love the honestly that my records hold...

"Dear Sky" is a song that seems to give listeners some insight into who you are as a person. Are there any other tracks on 84 Vol. 2 that you feel shed more light on your innermost self?

The track on my upcoming project that will give you the most insight on me as an individual would be [number one], "Falling" That track basically breaks down my insecurities and doubts as an artist. That record gives you the confident and not-so confident side of me as an artist as well as a human being. Nothing in life is promised to us. Who's to say that making music is my calling? This could just be another step to whatever God has called me to do. These are some of the self-doubts that [crossed my mind] as I wrote the record.

What can listeners expect to hear on 84 Vol. 2 that they didn’t get the first time around?

Listeners will get a more "insightful" look at Neak on 84 Vol. 2. On the first project, I just wanted to show people that I could rap and I had talent. On 84 Vol. 2, I wanted to tell my story in the "realest" form possible without any set structure (concept-wise). It was more a situation where I told myself, "Whatever comes to your heart, speak on it and don't think to hard about why you would want to speak on that emotion." Mulatto Patriot (the Executive Producer of this project) was a huge uplifter for me. I credit him greatly.

Last week we premiered your video for the single "Make It." What do you need to accomplish over the next 10 months in order to truly feel as though you've "made it"?

I feel like I just need to keep "believing" in what I do as an artist. Keeping the "Faith" in what I do is the strongest way to keep [my dream] alive. A lot of artists fall short because they can't endure the "struggle" or "constant-grind" it takes to make it. Everyone who is destined to make it has a time and place set aside only for them. For some, its overnight. For others, its years down the line. We don't know (as artists) when our time will come. If you have faith, there is no [wait] long enough to keep you from doing what you love; making music.

Any final thoughts? Any special (DJBooth.net) shout outs? Confessions? Admissions? Revelations?

Love God and Love Life. I would definitely like to give a shout out to DJ Z and the entire DJBooth.net staff for sponsoring my next upcoming project - 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco), which is due Tues. March 2. I definitely appreciate your belief in what I do as an artist. What we do is not easy, and it takes a lot of effort and har - Matty K. of DJBooth.Net

If your father, Robert Kelly of the R&B/Gospel/Soul group "The Kelly Brothers," performed alongside Funk & Soul legends like James Brown & Sam Cooke, chances are being a product of your environment meant only one thing…following the path of musicianship set directly before him. Chicago-based Hip-Hop artist / producer Neak draws vivid verbal portraits which find inspiration in the spirit of U.S. culture and his own deep-seating personal experiences. Naming Nas, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), Common, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Elzhi, Jay-Z, etc. as his main lyrical influences, Neak preserves the aesthetics of true-to-life Rap; authenticity, originality, and excellence all evoke a heartfelt emotion for listeners of his music.
