"NEW VIDEO: TRIPLE DARKNESS PRODUCED BY ILLMIND & 31RK"

HIP HOPE is an ambitious title for any rapper, let alone 21-year-old Brooklyn native Dyme-A-Duzin. But judging by this latest sample, his project isn’t wildly unrealistic. “Just when you thought New York rap was gone, I gift wrap the bomb,” he spits with certainty over the thumping production of !llmind (Kanye West “Power,” G.O.O.D. Music “The Morning,” No Malice and Ab-Liva “Smoke & Mirrors”). Hey Maino, not every kid from New York is “screaming then Young Money letters.”

"STILL WATCHING DYME-A-DUZIN"

Life moves fast and sometimes you have to slow down and catch the important parts. Brooklyn emcee Dyme-a-Duzin knows all about this, all too well. The rising rookie is enjoying a summer of success thanks in part to his A Portrait Of Donnovan mix-tape (out now), an endorsement deal with Puma, and numerous shows across the country. The Atlantic recording artist gave Guy Blelloch an inside look on his day-to-day as he manages life in the fast lane.

"Brooklyn Rapper DyMe-A-DuZin Wonders: Would Biggie Be Making Trap Rap?"

Editor's note: In "Tweets Is Watching," Phillip Mlynar asks local artists questions based solely on the contents of their Twitter timeline.

Brooklyn-based rapper DyMe-A-DuZin is currently capitalizing on the success of his great Portrait of Donovan mixtape. He recently dropped a flick for "Father's Day" while his remix of "New Brooklyn" (with Beast Coast bods the Underachievers and the Flatbush Zombies) is still buzzing. DyMe also rocks a very swanky bow-tie. We tapped him up to talk through a Twitter timeline that takes in musings on whether Biggie would be making trap rap, a park in Long Island named after his grandfather, and his search for a chick named Hilary.

"Mixtape Review"

What do you call a young man that doesn't follow standards, has a thing for MILF's (me too), doesn't really like you, but makes great music? That was a serious question, I'm looking for an adjective. Anywho...DyMe-A-DuZiN is that guy.

I started listening to Dyme's around 07-08, linked up and now I design most of his artwork (yay.), but all business talk aside...homie's a genius. We both share the thought that there's no need to limit yourself as an artist; just make music and be happy. Well here's to you DyMe-A-DuZiN, time to review "20=X".

1. "Kids" - One of my favorite songs on the mixtape, "Kids" shows Dymez as he reminisces about the struggle it took to get to where he's at and also dresses the oldheads who he's proven wrong time and time again. Real laid-back track, and amazing production by Plain Pat.

2. "Look At Me Now" - In this one, Dymez goes in over the Diplo-produced Chris Brown hit. This one shows "Mr. iDely" going in on the critics & wack rappers. Homie's ability to break down syllables is nuts! Gotta love it.

3. "Dymez Lennon" - If the name didn't catch your attention immediately, the song itself will. Another one of my favs on the tape with a CLASSIC Pokémon line. SERIOUSLY, fuckin' dope. As you get deeper in the songs you hear Dymez get a bit more personal as he speaks about relationships. Bold move, but it worked.

4. "Up All Night" - "Still sicker than Pastor Mase masturbating to Yolanda Adams in a flippin' gospel magazine...Beat it like it's Chris Brown's type." Dope. As Dymez goes in over Drizzy & Nicki's anthem, he speaks volumes for many unsigned artists being overlooked & picked over the "Flocka-Flamers" of the industry (shitttttt, I like Flocka. Don't front son, Flocka can get anyone hype).

5. "Can't Tell (ft. Elbie Thrie)" - This is that laid-back track! Acoustic guitar & a laid-back melody, you can't go wrong with that. Dymez' perspective is one that I can relate to, so his words speak clearly to me. I love how even though his attitude towards love is pretty negative most of the tie, this girl can be the exception. Dope shit.

6. "Keep It Pushin'" - Now we got to the story of my life! This song is the soundtrack to rushing "love" & being denied badly. My personal life aside (lol), the beat is energetic & kinda makes you hope he spits another verse. Maybe next time.

7. "Brooklyn's Revenge" - Time for Dymez to spaz. There's not much I can say about this one that's not evident once you hear it. Homie snaps on this. "Need a chick that can cook, but she not based."

8. "6 Foot 7 Foot" - Another track where the kid lets his thoughts run wild. Weird guy, but your ears like it. (and p.s. Teyana is fuckin' bangin'.)

9. "Black & Yellow" - Wiz's track gets a facelift by BK's future. He puts his own spin on it with his unique flow. I hear a bit of B.I.G.'s "Notorious Thugs" flow around the 0:47 mark. Dope shit. I was literally dead when he said: "Take it to the hole like Raz B". Lmfao, that shit is funny as hell.

10. "Too Kool Fah Meh" - On this track, Dymez ponder on what it would be like if settled to the "norm". The beat is soothing & relaxing, and his lyrics bleed honesty.

11. "Fly Young Gentlemen (ft, Traphik)" - Okay, I get why he likes older women now. Dymez' style is unique if you haven't noticed. It's old school-influence with the new school twist that only this young man can bring to this table. His flow on this track is gold. Laid-back, but gets to the point. You gotta love it. Traphik comes in & build on Dymez' message perfectly. Great collab, great hook, great beat, I can dig it.

12. "Motivation (Sexting Remix)" - The soundtrack to my nights right here! Shitttttt, good one Dymez! Sometimes a pictures awesome in the middle of the night...(lol). On this banger, he takes on Kelly Rowland's "Motivation" track & boy does he do it justice. Autotuned vocals (fuck yeah) & dope rap verse? Yup, I fuck with it.

13. "Ice Cream Freestyle" - Well look who brought Brooklyn out!? The young-MC goes in over the Wu-Tang classic & puts a new age twist on it. Fuckin' swag indeed. You can hear the rawness in his voice. It's music you feel.

14. "The Times (Remember That?)" - A honest love song, no if's, and's or but's about it. It's an open love letter to the ears.

15. "Current Events (w/ Phony PPL)" - Another one of my favorites, Dymez brings out the crew on this one! Fuck standards is the motto of this one. An anthem to be your own artist. You know I'm on-board with this message!

16. "Does He Really? (w/ Phony PPL)" - This what it would sound like if Raphael Saadiq, Donell Jones, A Tribe Called Quest & Andre 3000 made a song together while all passing a joint around. Fuck yes. Raw vocals and intimate lyrics.

- In conclusion, DyMe-A-DuZiN gets my respect because he does his own thing & "20=X" gets that message through clearly. Download it here: www.enliten.me - Searching for Greatness Blogg Spot.com
