Songwriter/Singer/Recording Artist Carissa Plumm Chapman is going to elevate Pop/Rock music into a new level of excitement. Carissa Plumm Chapman's Interview with Isaac

Isaac: What has been the best part of 2009 for you musically so far?

Carissa: I would say that all of '09 has been incredible so far and the year is only a little over a half way over. I've been getting a lot of airplay and recognition for my work. I've also been meeting a lot of fans and musicians online at different music sites that are popping up all over the web. It's great exchanging ideas and listening to other artists' work. So much great music out there from independent artists!

Isaac: What do you feel has the biggest accomplishment for 2009 so far?

Carissa: My biggest accomplishment has been that I've written a tremendous amount of songs. It just seems to be pouring out in buckets! Of course, I haven't recorded them all but hopefully I will have recorded a lot of them before the year is over.

Isaac: Describe the music scene in Southern California.

Carissa: The music scene in Southern California is very diverse. Fans are very opened to all types of music. They seem to be gravitating towards the independent artists. They are hungry for something different other than the typical mainstream music. There are literally hundreds of neighborhood clubs, open mikes, fairs; you name it, where musicians can perform. Of course, there will always be a draw for the big time acts but that's true for any big city like L.A.

Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?

Carissa: A great venue would be B.B. Kings at Universal City. They are so open to independent acts. There is also a lot of traffic in that area because of the big tourist trade. The club is always packed and that is great exposure for artists! The same would be true for The Cat Club in Hollywood.

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were the biggest influences in the music industry and why?

Carissa: Wow...the biggest influences in the music industry... there's been so many! How far should I go back? I'll start with the obvious, Elvis. Everyone knows he changed the face of music and introduced rock and roll, and helped to expose fans to this type of music worldwide, which by the way, was already being played by black musicians in America. They were the first, but Elvis was so big and had so much influence worldwide that he turned the tide.

Then there was The Beatles whose influence was worldwide as well. Their music was rock and roll but they brought in the British influence which had somewhat of a classical flair. Their music was so theatrical, so fun and very different from pure rock and roll. The world embraced it wholeheartedly and again, their music started a new trend.

Let's not forget Jimmy Hendrix the great guitarist who brought metal music to the world with his wild guitar licks. Guitarists today hail Hendrix as a revolutionary.

Janis Joplin's wild and raspy vocals and rockish mannerisms started a trend for women artists today.

Of course we also will never forget what The Jacksons brought to music. Most of all Michael Jackson. The epitome of R&B and true showmanship through his music and dance performances. I think that The Jacksons/Michael introduced yet another new era to music, a mixture of song and dance.

Madonna who, at her early beginnings sang and danced was a revolutionary because she introduced dance music to the world and I think had an impact on opening more doors for women pop artists.

Addition to the above: (As far as my biggest influence, I can't say that I have had one in particular. I love all types of music from classical, jazz, showtunes, country, rock, pop, you name it! I guess that's why my music is so varied. You will find the feel of rock, pop, jazz, and country in my songs. I think that my experience in musical theater really shows up in my music as well.)
