The Boston jangle-pop trio Bent Shapes make catchy songs, but their hooks don’t obscure the jittery anxiety at their center. We posted their single “Behead Yourself, Pt. 2” a few weeks ago, and the band’s debut album Feels Weird arrives next month. Right now, you can hear “Big Machines,” a relatively sprawling song at nearly four minutes, which features a great Tom Verlaine-style guitar solo. Listen to the track at SPIN. - Stereogum

Bent Shapes have released a steady output of 7-inch vinyl and cassette tapes since forming in 2009, but the Boston trio will finally unleash their debut album, Feels Weird, on August 20. The jangle-pop outfit — composed of Andy Sadoway, Ben Potrykus, and Supriya Gunda — teased the upcoming full-length a few months back with fidgety lead single "Behead Yrself, Pt. 2" (via Stereogum), and now the Feelies-informed tunesmiths have shared a second sample, "Big Machines." It's a song that marries tight, hummable melodies to ramshackle garage sprawl, all of which can be heard below. Pre-orders for Feels Weird are currently available through Father/Daughter Records. - SPIN

"Nice new pair of tunes by a Boston trio (formerly a quartet) whose pop evolution has been quite interesting to follow. They're getting overt now with their Velvets cops, which were previously apparent only as influences filtered through various combos from northern New Jersey and suburban Brisbane. Light and quite snazzy" - Byron Coley - Wire Magazine

Bio
Bent Shapes is Andy Sadoway, Ben Potrykus, and Supriya Gunda. Since forming under the name Girlfriends in 2009, the Boston, MA trio has released a string of cassettes and 7s full of fuzzy garage, frantic jangle pop, and scrappy post-punk on various labels (including band members own imprints), earning them critical praise from writers at NPR, The Onions A/V Club, Wire, Big Takeover, and Maximum Rocknroll. Comparisons from these outlets invoke the bands myriad influences, referencing touchstones like Josef K, The Feelies, Jonathan Richman, Billy Childish, and The Fall, and the last three years have seen Bent Shapes supporting acts as diverse as the Bats, Sic Alps, Dum Dum Girls, Grass Widow, and Scratch Acid. Their debut LP "Feels Weird" was released August 20, 2013 on San Francisco-based Father/Daughter Records.
This November the band embarks on a 3 week national tour, supporting John Vanderslice for several dates.
