"It's this highly evolved aesthetic sense in their videos and stage performances, something that harkens back to the exuberance of the '80s and early '90s with its mix of experimental theater philosophy and conceptual fashion trappings-that have garnered them a rabid fanbase hungry for more" - Out Magazine
"With their outlandish costumes, envelope-pushing videos and sensory-overload live shows, Hi Fashion has been turning heads since the release of the band's first EP, Sprechen Sie Hi Fashion? in 2011" - Frontiers Magazine
"The duo behind Hi-Fashion (Jen DM on vocals, Rick Gradone on everything else you hear) have been a force to be reckoned since the release of their first single..." - The Advocate
"Their new single, "Lighthouse" is a departure from their usual upbeat and cheeky attitude: in fact, it strikes a distinctly "Dancing On My Own"-esquebalance of catchy electro beats and lyrics about the rough side of love." - Paper Magazine

Before the styles hit the runway though, we were in for a surprise treat- a colorful performance from LA’s very own musical duo Hi Fashion! - Betty Confidential
The show opened with a short film about all of the designers that were presenting for the entire weekend. Then there was an awesome musical performance by Hi-Fashion. What appeared to be models walking down the runway in brightly colored dresses, turned out to be dancers that broke out into an energetic dance routine. That definitely got the audience off their feet and for a split second, it turned into a party. They were wearing masks and when they ripped them off, the fact that some of them were men made it even more amazing! - Press Pass LA

Bio
The eclectic musical duo HI FASHION first crossed paths on the dance floor at a club in New York’s Lower East Side. Rick Gradone thought Jen DM was a guy and approached her with the intention of picking her up. After chatting and discovering they were obviously both queer, Jen invited Rick to a Fugazi tribute benefit night at which she was performing. Once he heard her powerhouse voice, he was instantly obsessed with her. He asked her to make a project with him to which she promptly said, “NO.” Undaunted, he wrote 3 tracks and sent them to her asking if she would listen to them. They have been working together ever since and one of those songs became the basis of “AMAZING!”
Rick has been making music since the age of 6, including a long stint in the New York band Opti-Grab, an electro-rap trio who opened for bands like Blondie and Scissor Sisters. Jen is a trained dancer and performer who later moved her focus to vocals. Together the two have a wide range of occupations under their belts: Rick has traveled the world as a studio hairstylist on fashion shoots, while Jen is an experienced performer in New York’s downtown theatre scene, who has also done charitable work with organizations such as God’s Love We Deliver, Downtown Women’s Center, and Art Share. Being both queer themselves, they are very involved in LGBT culture, and, as their name implies, the fashion industry. Rick explains, "We design clothes together and have transformed the spaces we play as if each performance was an installation art project."
Described by Jen DM as an “all sensory take-over,” HI FASHION’s live show combines dancers, video, and experimental performance to blur the line between spectator and performer and offer an opportunity for a visceral and primal experience. “As painters, sculptors, designers, choreographers, and video makers, we have enjoyed making performance MORE than just music and are working on many other art forms as a team," explains Jen. Their eclectic blend of electronic dance-pop draws comparison to the likes of Scissor Sisters, Grace Jones, and Peaches.
