Tracer was recently voted third place in Planet Rock’s “Best New Band” listeners’ poll. Over the past four months Planet Rock has played the singles Too Muchand Devil Ride, two songs taken from Tracer’s debut critically acclaimed album Spaces In Between.
Tracer has captured the excitement and adrenalin rush of rock ’n’ roll. Tracer's sound embodies the same raw dynamics and edge to that of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age and Black Sabbath.
With the release of Spaces in Between, Tracer has attracted rave reviews and interviews in Classic Rock (New Band of the Month), Total Guitar, Rock Sound, Guitarist, Fireworks and Powerplay. Their video for Too Much has attracted over 50,000 hits on YouTube.
In the tradition of three-piece rock bands like Rush and Muse, Tracer’s sound is the audio equivalent to Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now set inside the eye of a hurricane.
Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Tracer embrace a sonic sledgehammer sound steeped in epic guitars, thunderous riffs and raw, uncompromising vocals. Their Australian blend of 90’s stoner and 70’s classic rock continues to win them new fans.
When Tracer supported Royal Republic on their 2011 European tour, it soon became evident that Tracer was the band to watch. When the UK’s premiere classic rock radio station, Planet Rock, started playing the band’s rock anthem Too Much, listeners responded, and posted messages on the Too Much YouTube video wall by saying, “Planet Rock brought me here.”
Rising from the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (vocals, guitar) and Leigh Brown (vocals, bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to form Tracer.
The following years have seen the trio find success with two independent releases; two international tours, including support slots for Little Red, Children Collide, The John Steel Singers and Cassette Kids.
Following a successful debut European tour in late 2009, Tracer returned overseas in September 2010 to take a coveted showcase slot at Germany’s PopKomm Music Conference in Berlin. The band then set off on a string of dates throughout Germany, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK, taking time off only to sign a long term record deal with Cool Green Recordings, a sub label of the Mascot Label Group.
Upon returning to Adelaide, the band headed straight into the studio, and recorded what was to be their debut album, released in October 2011. Entitled “Spaces In Between,” the album includes 12 in-your-face songs that will blow your head off.
TRACER - OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY
With a sound reminiscent of 90's grunge/stoner rock mixed with the everlasting bravado of 70's classic rock, Tracer is a driving, sonic sledgehammer of massive guitars, clever hooks and raw uncompromising vocals. Forming out of the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (Vocals and guitar) and Leigh Brown (Vocals and Bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to make Tracer. With 2 independent releases, 2 international tours and now a record contract under their belt, Tracer is a band that takes every little chance, every crazy idea, and commits everything they have to it.
During 2008 and 2009 Tracer took on an extensive touring schedule with multiple trips to Melbourne, a swag of successful Adelaide shows including a capacity crowd at the Australian album launch for their second critically acclaimed mini-album “L.A.?”
2009 also saw the band share the stage with Little Red, Children Collide, The John Steel Singers and Cassette Kids among others. In late 2009 Tracer set off and toured Europe for three and a half months taking in Germany, the Netherlands, U.K., Denmark, Switzerland and Czech. Tracer also toured as part of The Great Australian Wave (as a showcase at PopKomm in Germany).
Upon returning from Europe the band got busy writing new songs and developing their live show. Demand from overseas led the band to recording 3 new songs to compliment the release of ‘L.A.?’ in Europe. ‘L.A.?’ was met with countless praising reviews in German magazines and an expression of interest from Mascot Records in the Netherlands. Due to the success of the 2009 European tour and an increasing demand from overseas, Tracer played Europe once more with a showcase performance at Germany’s new format PopKomm Music Conference in Berlin. From this performance the band set off on a string of dates throughout Germany, Czech, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK.
The band released their debut LP via Mascot’s Cool Green Recordings on October 3rd 2011. Following the release of the album, the band toured the UK and Europe as support to Royal Republic.
In 2011, their single “Too Much” was A-listed on Planet Rock Radio in the UK for three months. The band generated over 50,000 views for their Too Much video on YouTube. In December 2011, Planet Rock started A-listing Tracer’s second single “Devil Ride”.
Due to popular demand, Tracer will return to the UK and Europe for their first headline tour in April 2012.

BANDS ON TRACK THURSDAY CONCERT LINEUP
The Sundance Kids
The Sundance Kids debut album “Fall Into Place,” spawned the three radio hits ‘Solutions’, ‘Drive Away” and ‘Burn So Bright.’ It also gave them the opportunity to tour this country far and wide across 2010.
After the success of their debut album, The Sundance Kids took some time off before embarking on the daunting task of writing the follow up album. Luke Zecchin, Lead guitarist explains…
“The last 18 months have been a totally creative process for us. We have written a stack of new material, which we have whittled down to about 12 songs. We have worked with an International Producer and whilst the new stuff definitely has the ‘Sundance’ signature, we’ve grown as a band and as writers so there is a progression in the sound. We’re really happy with what we’ve decided to put on this record. “
The new album was recorded at Chapel Lane Studios in Adelaide across the back end of 2011 and is being mixed at Air Studios in London. The first single is tentatively aligned with their headlining Clipsal performance and the album is due around August/September.
Messrs
Combining indie rock and dance punk with intricate guitars and multi layered washes of synth, Adelaide five piece Messrs (formerly The Touch) have spent the past couple of years refining their sound and honing their live talents on stage supporting artists like Phoenix, Ladyhawke, Kele (Bloc Party), Miami Horror, DZ Deathrays and Children Collide.
Setting an expectation of high energy and an engaging live show at festivals Big Day Out, One Movement and Fuse - it was a demo of their new single ‘Everyone Knows’, which caught the ear of Great Escape Festival Director Jon Mclldowie, who hand-picked the band toplay the UK festival.
Messrs made their debut under the new name at this year’s Parklife Festival.
The Beards
The concept of The Beards is simple: A folk-rock band that exclusively perform songs about just one subject: Beards.
Forming in 2005 to perform one show only in their hometown of Adelaide, South Australia, The Beards soon found their truly unique concept in hot demand and were booked to play more shows. Rising to the challenge, the quartet continued to grow their beards longer and longer, and continued to write more and more songs about beards.
As they played around town, word spread, and their fan base grew. By 2007, the band enjoyed a local cult following. But this was just the beginning. The advent of online social networking led to a global fan base, and in 2009, the band travelled all the way to Alaska to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Beard & Moustache Championships.
Since then, the band has gone on to tour Australia, produce a hugely successful film clip for their song If Your Dad Doesn’t Have a Beard You’ve Got Two Mums; extensively toured Australia, released a live DVD and two studio albums – with a third on the way (to be released early 2012).
Tracer
Proudly based in Adelaide, South Australia, Tracer is a celebration of epic guitars, clever hooks and raw uncompromising vocals. Their driving, sonic sledgehammer is reminiscent of the best 90’s grunge/stoner rock mixed with the bravado of 70’s classic rock.
Tracer’s balls-to-the-wall approach to their music and performance is winning over new fans around the world, which recently landed them an international record deal with Cool Green Recordings.
Returning to Adelaide after their second European tour, Tracer headed straight into the studio, armed with a collection of their most kick-ass songs, to record their introduction to the world stage. Entitled ‘Spaces In Between’, the band’s debut album includes 12 in-your-face songs recorded with the same boldness in creativity and expansive sound audiences have come to expect from Tracer. The first single and opening track “Too Much” is a great example of Tracer’s unrelenting, bulldozer sound.
Secrets In Scale
Brothers David and John McGuire perform a unique brand of progressive rock. The past 18 months have seen the boys travel around the country on more than a few occasions, touring with The Getaway Plan and Closure in Moscow, and receiving rave reviews for their live performances.
Secrets In Scale have been handpicked to support a number of Australia’s best rock acts including Birds of Tokyo, Dead Letter Circus, Trial Kennedy and Something With Numbers.
Not wanting to keep eager fans waiting too long for a taste of their debut album, ‘Desert Mouth’ (forged alongside U.S. Producer Kris Crummett – Dance Gavin Dance, Closure in Moscow), Secrets in Scale have released a precursor to the album, dubbed the ‘DMT Mixtape’. It features a different mix of four tracks that will be on the album and is available for free download through the band’s website secretsinscale.com.
DJ Ian
The mastermind behind some of the most legendary indie and alternative nightclubs (POP!, BANG! and CRANK!) DJ IAN is renowned for his eclectic mix of styles and genres.
Combining a vast knowledge of, and great love for, a huge range of musical styles he has shared stages with Henry Rollins, Midnight Oil, Placebo, You Am I, Spiderbait, Living End, Incubus, Billy Thorpe, The Buzzcocks and Keanu Reeves (true story!).
With a career spanning over twenty years DJ Ian’s sets can combine indie, metal, cheesy pop, ska, Motown, booty shakers, funk, hip hop and much more.

MAGAZINE QUOTES
“As one Australian grunge power trip slip away into the night, here’s another to pick up
the baton. Silverchair may have called it a day, but Tracer’s album ‘Spaces In Between’
suggests another unit-shifting Aussie export has arrived.” – Rhythm Magazine
“Riff heavy blues done Aussie power trio style with hairy bollocks the size of wrecking balls.
If the Answer was banged up by Monster Magnet, this is what the result would probably
sound like.” – Powerplay Magazine
“Tracer’s taken the power blues rock format, shot it through with a huge dose of Aussie
bollocks and cranked the whole lot right up. Spaces in Between is loud, tough and gritty with
a youthful spark that harks back to the Led Zep and Trapeze.” – Powerplay Magazine
“There may be rawer, spikier specimens of the genre knocking about but ‘Spaces In
Between’ is such a heavy slab of bluesy hard rock that if you dropped it in Seven Oaks it
would give the Chinese premier a bit of a shock as he was sitting in Peking having a shit.”
- Powerplay Magazine
“Tracer utilise the elements of guitar, bass and drums to fuel a freight train of sound that
recalls grunge giants such as Soundgarden, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.”
– Guitarist Magazine
“Tracer have this incredible knack of morphing the blues into high voltage rock’n’roll.”
– Classic Rock Magazine
“Tracer’s forceful and righteous blend of hip-swinging 70s and 90s hard rock influences
includes Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Soundgarden and Kyuss.” – Classic Rock Magazine
“Tracer takes cues from the heavier end of Josh Homme’s spectrum, the latter feeling like
him jamming with Led Zeppelin.” – Total Guitar Magazine
“Tracer crams Queens of the Stone Age’s jagged-edged licks and Soundgarden’s urgency
into a riff-packed, classic rock-coated 50 minutes.” – Total Guitar Magazine
“With the punkish aggression of the Butthole Surfers and the classic rock attitude of
Wolfmother, their musical DNA is grunge crossed with Deep Purple.”
– 4 Stars, Total Guitar Magazine
“The snakey, wah-scorched solo of hard-slamming opener ‘Too Much’ calls both Blackmore
and Pearl Jam to mind, while the swagger of ‘Push’s’ verse riff has the elaborate pomp of a
lost Zep number.” – 4 Stars, Total Guitar Magazine
“Australian rockers, Tracer, mix musical styles including retro hard rock, thick stoner
grooves and even a sprinkling of southern rock to create this impressive debut, and some
comparisons that come to mind include Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age and Velvet
Revolver.” – 8/10 Classic Rock Magazine
“Tracer commands a blend of styles specialising in big hard rock riffs paired with powerful,
catchy choruses and raw, gritty vocals, with a strong influence of blues throughout.”
– 8/10 Classic Rock Magazine
“There seems a big buzz surrounding this band. They’ve got a retro seventies and
contemporary sound with plenty of riffs, bags of confidence and a strong set of songs, all
produced with vitality and clarity.” – Fireworks Magazine
“Tracer’s album, Spaces In Between, blasts off with ‘Too Much’, a thunderous riff driven
beast with plenty of fuzz, fire, energy, and, better still, high calibre distinctive vocals from
Michael Brown.” – Fireworks Magazine
“Tracer’s Chris Cornell-styled vocals layered atop noticeably cosmic guitar work are
reminiscent Hermano at their sun-kissed best. Far less sludgy than Kyuss or Orange
Goblin.” – Rock Sound Magazine
“Spaces in Between is an incredibly heavy affair... Tracer injects an edge to traditional
rock and roll. The sheer intensity of Tracer is a real surprise. Tracer are touring the more
intimate venues of England. You get the feeling that’s about to change...”

3) TRACER
Australian three-piece Tracer are the latest in a long line of outstanding hard rock bands from Down Under (e.g. Airbourne, Wolfmother and a little band called AC/DC), but their sound is more firmly rooted in the stoner rock of bands such as Kyuss or east coast US circa 1990. They are heavy, loud and exceptional live. Undoubtedly one to watch in the coming months. - Planet Rock

Stand Out Track: Spaces In Between
Tracer release their new album ‘Spaces In Between’ on October 3rd (UK release) on the Cool Green recordings label. The Australian desert rockers, who are based in Adelaide, comprise of brothers Michael and Leigh Brown and Andre Wise. They have had success with two previous independent releases, but ‘Spaces In Between’ will I feel launch Tracer to new heights.
Tracer’s blend of 90’s stoner and 70’s classic rock is steeped in epic guitar sounds, clever hooks and raw, uncompromising vocals.
I hope (and imagine) that Tracer can reproduce live on stage the intensity and passion and raw rock n roll that is so evident in this album. With the UK tour coming up I think we should all go and check out these Aussie contenders!
“So what’s the album really like?” I hear you say. The album starts with ‘Too Much’ and a great start it is. A guitar riff straight from the 70’s classic-rock bible. A solid, constant rhythm throughout. A very catchy rock song, which is understandably the first single from the album.
Check out the video below
Track two; ‘Push’ has a more laid back feel. It still rocks, but in a groovier kinda way. If Jimi Hendrix and Paul Rodgers had a lovechild, it would sing like this!
‘Walk Alone’ continues the 70’s rock vibe. A solid drum beat throughout which has a simple yet traditional guitar riff over the top
The fourth track, ‘Louder Than This’ is stoner rock at its finest. Distorted vocals over a solid pounding drum beat, with guitars turned to eleven. There is almost a Slade vibe to this song. I can imagine Noddy Holder belting this out in the 70’s.
The next track ‘Devil Ride’ goes back to the rockier tempo of track one. Definitely the catchiest chorus on the album so far. I have a feeling that ‘Devil Ride’ might just be the next single.
Track six is another thumping tune. ‘ The Bitch’ is the song which will get the crowd going wild in the mosh-pit, although they will still sing along to the chorus, with devil-horns flying high.
The seventh track, ‘Voice In The Rain’ has a much slower pace than most on the album. The Paul Rodgers comparison to Michael Browns vocal is most evident here. A great performance.
The album’s title track ‘Spaces In Between’ is the stand out track. The bass line complements the raw guitar sound and you find yourself singing along to ‘The Spaces In Between’ line of the chorus
Track nine is ‘Dead Inside’. This starts slow and Bluesy, rocks in with screaming vocals and guitar solos, slows back down again then totally rocks out towards the end. A clever song, which highlights the bands musical talents.
‘Save My Breath’ is another pulsating rocker with some nice stop/start moments and even a little psychedelic middle eight!
‘All In My Head’, the eleventh track, is a mellow rocker with another catchy chorus.
The album closes with ‘Won’t Let It Die (Run Mary)’. A shot of Bad Company, a dash of Led Zeppelin and topped up to the brim with Jimi Hendrix. Get the idea? A laid back song but with great guitar work, especially the solo. This will have you singing along by the end

Australian rockers TRACER release debut album 'Spaces In Between'
With a sound reminiscent of 90’s grunge/stoner rock mixed with the everlasting bravado of 70’s classic rock.
September 4, 2011
Australian rockers TRACER release debut album 'Spaces In Between'
Cool Green Recordings is pleased to announce the October 3rd UK release of the new album “Spaces In Between” from the southern Australian desert rockers ‘Tracer’.
If Robert Plant and Jimi Hendrix made love to the sounds of Audioslave, they’d probably sound similar to the likes of Tracer. Based in Adelaide, South Australia, the trio embodies a sonic sledgehammer sound steeped in epic guitars, clever hooks and raw, uncompromising vocals. Tracer’s unique blend of 90’s stoner and 70’s classic rock is winning them over new fans, and landed them with an international record deal. Rising from the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (vocals, guitar) and Leigh Brown (vocals, bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to form Tracer.
The following years have seen the trio find success with two independent releases; two international tours, including support slots for Little Red, Children Collide, The John Steel Singers and Cassette Kids; and most recently, a record contract with highly respected Dutch label Mascot Records.
Following their successful debut European tour in late 2009, Tracer returned overseas in September 2010 to take a coveted showcase slot at Germany’s PopKomm Music Conference in Berlin. The band then set off on a string of dates throughout Germany, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK, taking time off only to sign a long term record deal with Cool Green Recordings, a sub label of Mascot.
Upon returning to Adelaide, the band headed straight into the studio, and recorded what is to be their forthcoming album to be released in October 2011. Entitled “Spaces In Between,” the new album includes 12 in-your-face songs that will stick in your head for days, weeks and years to come.
The band will support the release of the new album by undertaking a nationwide UK tour supporting Royal Republic in October 2011.
TRACER
on tour with ROYAL REPUBLIC
Tracer are excited to announce their third European Tour, as the main support for action-rock, Swedish band, Royal Republic.
The band will play a series of warm-up shows before joining Royal Republic for the second half of their “We Are The Royal” Tour, taking on 24 dates through France, UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Sweden.
With venue capacities up to and above 500, the tour is a huge step-up for Tracer in Europe. To tour with such a cool band as Royal Republic, this will be a massive rock ’n roll party every night for the bands and fans alike.
The tour will also coincide with the European release of Tracer’s debut LP “Spaces In Between” on October 3 2011 on Dutch label, Cool Green Recordings. The album has been an absolute mission to make, but the end result is something that truly captures the excitement and balls-to-the-wall sound of Tracer. It will be great to give something back to all of you, our fans.
Keep an eye out for Tracer’s video clip for first single “Too Much” later this month.

The band recently finished recording their debut LP to be released on Mascot’s Cool Green Recordings on October 3rd 2011 which will be followed by another international tour.

I have to say, i had to pick up the cd cover to make sure I had the right cd in the player, as the press release says “Tracer” fall into the “grunge” category, I totally disagree, they are more classic rock, certainly more like Velvet Revolver, than Nirvana.
A three piece hailing from Australia, Tracer have been around since 2004, having released two indie recordings before finally getting this debut out on Cool Green Recordings.
The first song “Too much” is a great rock track, in the classic sense, full of chunky guitars and a nice rhythm section too, this is now out on Youtube as a single, and there is a link to a free download of the song below.
“Push” is up next, and this heads in a more “Queens of the stone/Stone temple pirates” direction, but its still a great rock song.
By the time the 3nd song has finished “Walk alone” its beginning to become harder to label this band, as “Walk alone” is defo heading into stoner rock territory, a quirky guitar riff, overlaid with a stagnating rhythm guitar.
“louder than this” is like sitting in a blues country bar, watching an old timer pluck away at his battered guitar, or is it ? There is very much a blues flavor going on here, the vocals of Michael Brown stand out here, really stand out, you get the feelings he’s just showing you that he can sing like this all the time, if he wanted to. A stunning track.
Classic rock comes to the fore again on the next track ”Devils Ride”, yet the guitar part has a grunge feel to it, so were finally getting somewhere lol.
“The bitch” has a nice slab of stoner rock going on, before we head into ‘Voice in the rain’, a sort of early Bad Company love song, sort off, its getting hard to pigeon hole this band, and that is what is going to set them apart in today’s crowded market.
With 12 songs on this cd, that cover most of the rock/metal/stoner/classic genres, its hard to fault any song, what is going to be hard for the band, will their ability to please everybody, all the time, as we know that can’t happen.
The future fans of “Tracer” will be fans of the band, and not the genre off music that they play, as its very varied, even the press release didn’t know which direction to go.
So open your mind and ears, as this band bridge a lot of rock genres to bring you an album of outstanding musicianship, songwriting, tempered with a contemporary edge.
A very rewarding 8/10.
‘Too Much’, described as an exploding fireball of kinetic stoner rock energy, is also available as a FREE MP3 download from Soundcloud HERE

Tracer - The Roadhouse, Manchester 28/10/11
If it wasn’t for a large group of Emo types standing outside the venue, I could easily have missed The Roadhouse in Manchester altogether! Stuck in a side street and with just the door front on show, it is an easy place to miss. The young Emo crowd were obviously there for the main act of the night, Royal Republic, but I and quite a few other ‘older’ rockers were there for the ballsy rock of support band Tracer. Being a supporter of their debut album, ‘The Spaces In Between’, I was curious to see if the Aussie trio could pull it off live....They didn’t disappoint.
Coming on-stage at the ridiculously early time of 6:50pm, Tracer launched straight into the all out rocker ‘Devil Ride’, immediately getting the small audience on their side with one of the catchiest choruses from the album. The energy and power filled the entire room and you couldn’t help but be carried along with it. When they launched into ‘The Bitch’, I could see almost every single person nodding their head. With its powerful riff and stomping rhythm, you’d have to be a cold hearted, musically brain dead person not to feel the passion and raw power of this song. Michael Brown was on top form, hitting the high notes as well as the growling lower range. The whole band was tight and obviously very used to playing the live circuit.
Even with such an early start, the band were limited to just a six song set, but what a master class in Rock they gave. By the time of the second to last song, the single ‘Too Much’ which is getting plenty of airplay on rock radio stations everywhere, the crowd had been well and truly won over and were happily rocking out, devil horns and fists in the air. The band closed with ‘Walk Alone’ and got the (much larger by this point) crowd riled up into a frenzy when they went into Sabbaths ‘War Pigs’ halfway through the song. A stroke of genius, but they weren’t quite finished with the crowd pleasing antics. We’ve all seen guitarists playing their guitar behind their head, with their back to the audience.... Well, firstly Michael Brown did it with his guitar, then brother Leigh joined in with his Bass behind his head and then to top it all, Andre Wise stood up and started playing the drums with his back to the kit and audience. This put a huge smile on everyone’s faces and not a single note was missed. A perfect ending to a powerful, if far too short and early, live set.
- I Review Rock.com
Tracer is a glowing rocknroll trio from Adelaide, Australia. The band draw influences from stoner rock and grunge, where their 12 track debut long player "Spaces in between" can be described as a non compromising high octane rock affair. They put the pedal to the metal right from the start with the opener "Too much" and you dont get to catch your breath until the last track "Wont let it die" is over, frontman Michael Brown has a super strong voice and he reminds a lot of Chris Cornell. It´s an even album for fans of Audioslave, Monster Magnet and Red Halo. What I miss though, is a track that will work as a killer single on radio. - Melodic

In 2004, Michael (vocals and guitar) and Leigh Brown (vocals and bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to form Tracer. Although they aren’t a household name yet here in the States, with years of extensive touring in their homeland of Australia and Europe, Tracer is quickly becoming a band to keep your eye on. With the fast approaching release of their first major label album, the band gives listeners a mix of the 90’s Grunge sound and 70’s attitude.
The Grunge sound isn’t done in the style of Nirvana with lyrics that are dark, but rather in a fresh way that leaves you with lyrics and hooks stuck in your head for quite some time after you’ve finished listening to it. Tracer also manages to deliver these catchy songs with an attitude that makes you sit up, pay attention, and realize that with the right exposure these guys will be on headlining tours soon with a fiercely loyal following.
The twelve songs on the CD all have something unique about them that keep you from getting bored as you listen, and let’s face it, these days if you bore a listener chances are that you will never get them to listen to you again. Instead of following a tried and true cookie cutter formula, Tracer goes out on a limb again and again, and in a way that really works. While taking elements of the past they twist it and make it their own unique Rock sound.
A couple of stand out tracks cry out to be mentioned. “Push” takes a driving rhythm, a guitar line that sticks, and some killer vocals and grabs your attention in a big way. I actually had thoughts of Them Crooked Vultures when I heard this. “Dead Inside” gives a look into the emotion that Michael has in his singing. The bass line in this is stellar, and it’s just one that stays with me. “Won’t Let It Die (Run Mary)” has a syncopated feel that takes the listener by surprise, especially when the guitar comes alive and completely changes the feel of the song.
I know that for our US readers this disc may take a little work to find, but if you like the sounds of bands like Them Crooked Vultures or The Black Crowes it’s definitely worth seeking out.

- Rockpalast

Forming out of the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (Vocals and guitar) and Leigh Brown (Vocals and Bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to make Tracer. With 2 independent releases, 2 international tours and now a record contract under their belt, Tracer is a band that takes every little chance, every crazy idea and commits everything they have to it.
During 2008 and 2009 Tracer took on an extensive touring schedule with multiple trips to Melbourne, a swag of successful Adelaide shows including a capacity crowd at the Australian album launch for their second critically acclaimed mini-album L.A.?

Vicki Grozdanovski caught up with Adelaide Band TRACER and had a chat to Leigh Brown about their new album, Spaces in Between, which is out now.
For those of you who haven’t heard of TRACER, they are a three-piece band with a sound reminiscent of nineties grunge/stoner rock mixed with the everlasting bravado of 70's classic rock. With massive guitars, clever hooks, two independent releases, two international tours and now a record contract under their belt, TRACER is a band that takes every little chance, every crazy idea, and commits everything they have to it.
Talking about the inspiration behind the new album, Brown stated that it was a combination of what they thought was the best style of music for them as a band and what they enjoy playing. “The style is what the band is about. The album has a grungy sound and a raw bluesyeness about it as well. As we continued writing, doing the pre-production and then eventually producing the album, everything started falling into place."
“This album is just a raw sledgehammer of TRACER. We are influenced by stoner rock such as LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH; those kinds of sounds that run through all of our playing and us. I think all of that combined is what is in the album now, the TRACER sound,” exclaims Brown.
When asked what fans can expect from the new album, Brown advised that the band looks back on their previous albums and takes everything into account using their past ten years as a learning curve. “A lot of what we have done in the past has come together on this CD. The pre-production that we did on this album was quite heavy. We probably would have played these songs for about two to three months, listening, recording and developing the sounds. If the fans have heard other albums they can definitely expect a bigger more kick ass sound again from the last one that’s for sure. This is a pretty big step for us."
With twelve songs on this album, the one that stands out for Brown would definitely be Spaces In Between. “I play this song the most to show people what we are doing. It is a strong song and gives people a good idea of the elements of what TRACER can put down on a recording now."
TRACER all work together and use a collaborative approach when putting material together for an album. “On all of our albums, we work together as a group. We would be writing consistently sitting in the old room out the side of the house where we would develop songs and lyrics. The melody stuff is done by Michael but we definitely all contribute to the songs quite a lot,” says Brown.
Once the album is released, TRACER will be kicking off their European tour where they will be the headline act until the 22nd of October. “After that we will be kicking on with ROYAL REPUBLIC and that will go through to the 19th of November. It will be twenty-five dates throughout the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, where else are we going? Can’t remember!” laughs Brown. “We are hoping to put together over the New Year most likely at this stage, an Aussie tour so we definitely want to come back here and do a proper release for everyone and develop a bit more of a fan base. We are definitely going to come back here to play."
If you are looking at catching a TRACER show you can definitely expect to be entertained to the fullest. “If you’re not leaving sweaty and exhausted we are not happy. Our main aim is to get out there and do what we do best. We are more of a live band if anything else and have been known to excel. Our show should be everything you want in a live show; it is straight out rock with good loud solid tunes. It is stuff you can get into and sing along to while you’re having a couple of frothies,” boasts Brown. “Frothies? What is that?” I asked. “Frothies”? He asks in a confused tone. “It’s beer!” he laughs. Of course it is.
Having played many places in Europe several times, I asked Brown what would be the most favourite place he has played to date. “Pretty much everywhere in Berlin. Those guys surely know how to party. It would have to be between that and The Netherlands. We seem to come across very well in those places. We have had some really cool shows in The Netherlands and I’m not sure why. I think it must be the style of music that is within that culture like QUEENS OF THE STONEAGE and SOUNDGARDEN. That stoner rock and that sort of style just fits really nicely over there and that is where our music comes from, that bluesy stone rock with a modern rock edge on it."
A definite highlight and major achievement for TRACER so far would be taking Aussie music overseas. “It is such a great achievement for us especially when you are bringing back results of record signings and getting really good comments coming from all over the world. For us, it is about the music and what we are doing is plenty enough for us to wake up in the morning to get up and strive even more. We love getting up on stage but to be out there touring is pretty much our main achievement. As long as we can keep doing that we will be pretty happy boys."
Looking forward to an Aussie tour an excited Brown wraps up with his final words to the fans. “We can’t wait to play in front of you. Let’s have a good time and few drinks, a couple of frothies,” he laughs. - Sludge Factory

Soundgarden Gives Birth To An Aussie Child!
"Cool Green Recordings is pleased to announce the October 3rd UK release of the new album “Spaces In Between” from the southern Australian desert rockers ‘Tracer’.
Rising from the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (vocals, guitar) and Leigh Brown (vocals, bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to form Tracer."
OK, that's the "review" that was provided for me to post. However, I find it interesting that I wasn't offered a review copy of the CD to listen to myself. Usually, when I ask for one I am denied, so what do I have to lose by giving an honest review, right?
So, here goes...with vocals that sound incredibly like Soundgarden and guitars that also sound incredibly like Soundgarden, I hereby rename this group Soundgarden Jr. Any music promoter/press agent that needs to throw out two of the greatest names in music history to say how awesome their band is is surely getting listeners ready for disappointment. "Hey man, my new car is just like a '57 Chevy!" No, dude, it's a Chevy Caprice.
The music definitely rocks, but I've heard it before, and rather than go out and spend the money on "Tracer," I'll just pull out my old Soundgarden CDs. - There Is A Site That Never Goes Out

Tracer obviously take a lot of influence from bands like Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots but with guitar riffs reminiscent of the classic rock of the 70's. The track “Walk Alone” reminds me of classic Sabbath mixed with Pearl Jam and “The Bitch” to me sounds like what T-Rex would have sounded like if Chris Cornell had collaborated with them. There are a lot of catchy riffs on this album including, “Save My Breath” with it’s quirky timing and heavy funk rhythm guitars and they really stick in your head, in fact this album really grows on you with each listen.
Tracer are currently on tour so check out their website – http://www.tracer-band.com for dates and you can also keep up with all the latest on their Facebook page.

Tracer is a rock band and they are hailing from Adelaide, South Australia. The band was formed by Michael Brown (vocals, guitar), Leigh Brown (vocals, bass) and Andre Wise (drums) in 2004. During the following years, the trio foud success with two independent releases; two international tours, including support slots for Little Red, Children Collide, The John Steel Singers and Cassette Kids; and most recently, a record contract with highly respected Dutch label Mascot Records. So, nowadays, the band is ready to blow us with their new album called "Spaces In Between" which will be released in October 2011.
Tracer sound is somewhere between stoner rock, 70's classic rock sound with a strong dose of modern rock stuff! The album starts with "Too Much". A very rhythmic in-your-face tune with some really aggressive guitars and a 70's classic rock feeling. A really impressive start! "Push" comes next and this time the band is showing a groovier side. The guitar work here is excellent! "Walk Alone" is another 70's coloured track with a 'darker' mood. "Louder Than This" is a typical stone rock track. The highlight here is the vocal lines by Michael Brown. So far, I have to say that I'm really impressed by this guy's vocal skills. Back to some rockier rhythms with "Devil Ride". A 'clever' riff, Michael's passionate performances and when it comes to the chorus this song kick some serious asses! One of my personal favourite from "Spaces In Between".
"The Bitch" is overall a good one while in "Voice In The Rain" we have a slower but very melodic tune. Another highlight from the new album. The self-titled track, "Spaces In Between", is brilliant! Inspired guitar work, a tight bass line and a memorable chorus that make you whispering it for days! "Dead Inside" could easily be the starter song for Tracer's live performances! It's a hard hittin' song that gets slower somewhere in the middle and then comes Michael Brown's shouting to leave us hungry for more! "Save My Breath" has a nice groove in it and "All In My Head" has a really beautiful melody and a huge guitar work! At the end the album closes with "Won't Let It Die(Run Mary)". This is a fantastic rockin' song with a strong dose of blues in it. Brilliant just brilliant stuff!
Overall, this is an extremely interesting release. This band 'has it'! Yes, they have the songs, an excellent frontman, the arrangements are all well-crafted, the performances are passionate and most of all they put heart and soul on every single moment of this record. Well done!

I woke up today and found this album in my inbox. Read the band biography, and thought, “Oh well, another AC/DC Rose Tattoo sound alike Australian band”! Opened up the link to listen, with a small degree of reservation and, WTF!!!!!! Is there a mad scientist in Australia that has been mixing the D.N.A. of Velvet Revolver with Queens of The Stone Age? As well as adding bluesy, beer driven attitude in great measure? Well, if there is, he is onto a good thing. Tracer are most definitely the next big thing to explode from the shores of Oz.
Grunge/Stoner rock at its best, from the lead track, Too Much, which is going to be the first single from the album, through to the last track, Wont Let it Die (Run Mary), you are taken on a 12 track ride that will not let you off without a fight

You could almost imagine Tracer being at home in a bar playing their brand of stoner to a crowd of boozed up metal heads, and letting their music do the talking. From the opener, which is as best as you’ll ever hear in modern stoner/grunge music, through tracks that will either grab you by the throat with attitude, or have you looking into your beer glass with fond memories of the good times.
The opening track Too Much is worthy of being described as “throat grabbing”. When it starts, you are drawn to the similaritys to Velvet Revolver, and Scott Weiland in his Stone Temple Pilot days. As I stated before, a worthy choice as the first single. You are then on a trip through 11 more tracks, each as good as your going to get from a young band, who sound like they have been around for years.
As you listen to each track, you can hear plenty of influences from the afore mentioned Velvet Revolver, and, QOTSA. But that is where the similaritys end. Tracer bring their own brand of attitude and balls, which is rare nowadays in new bands, to each track. the problem I find with bands from Australia, is that they have the stigmata of being compared to AC/DC even before they have been heard. So it is refreshing to have a band like Tracer who, like Wolfmother, are bringing a whole new sound from Australia.
So, if you like stoner/grunge in the vein of VR and QOTSA, then this album is a definate must for your collection.
This gets a Pitbullian rating of 8/10. - Braingell Radio
Listening to Tracer’s excellent ‘spaces in between’ you can’t help but feel that the press release was misrepresenting the band a touch with the whole ‘grunge’ tag. Now don’t get me wrong – I love grunge, it’s just that what you have here is closer to the classic hard rock of, say, Velvet Revolver than the punkish, downbeat misery of Nirvana, Tad or Mudhoney. Indeed, in its list of comparisons the press-sheet offers up Audioslave – hardly a grunge band despite the presence of Chris Cornell – and a more fitting description might be Queens of the Stone Age covering Led Zeppelin (so that’ll be Them Crooked Vultures then??!!) given the arid nature of the guitars and the soulful roar of the vocals.
A three piece hailing from Australia, Tracer have actually been hard at it since 2004, releasing two indie releases before finally finding a well-deserved home Cool Green Recordings (a sub-division of the mighty Mascot records). However, as hard a slog as it must have been for the group, the result is music that is well honed but with a strongly defined identity that has come from the years of touring and recording together, and the twelve tracks on offer bristle with blues-infused energy and the hedonistic spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. Take opening cut ‘too much’, which is apparently to be released as a video later this month, pared down to a satisfyingly chunky hard rock riff, gravel throated vocals via the Glenn Hughes school of singing and a decent rhythm driven by the pile-driving drums, it’s the sort of revitalised classic-rock-style blast that have had audiences in thrall to Black Country Communion in recent months whilst a Slash-style solo puts the track firmly at the harder end of the spectrum with Tracer clearly as familiar with Guns ‘n’ Roses as they are with the mighty Zeppelin and Purple. ‘Push’ meanwhile shows a more contemporary edge with a strong Queens of the stone age feel pumping through the sketchy guitar riffs and dry-as-bleached-bones vocal. ‘Walk alone’ takes a darker direction with heavy toms rolling away behind a pure blues vocal and a storming chorus that references Audioslave’s mighty ‘Cochise’.
One of the many highlights on the record is the blues stomp of ‘louder than this’ which provides a stunning showcase for Michael Brown’s astonishing vocal talents before slowly building to be a monster track filled with fat, engaging riffs and throbbing bass. Putting pedal back to the metal, ‘devil ride’ has a nagging rhythm and a Zakk Wylde feel to it before ‘the bitch’ turns up the heat, referencing the fearsome might of Sabbath coupled with the quirky rhythms of a certain Mr Homme. It’s a great track that oddly recalls ‘no one knows’ as played by Tony Iommi. ‘Voice in the rain’ shows a more sensitive side to the band and also demonstrates a strong melodic bent that is both melodic and memorable – it’s the sort of song that would justifiably have appeared in the charts back when the charts represented real music – but it’s enough to know that it’s a great rock ballad which would not sound out of place on a Bad Company record. Following the stunning ‘voice in the rain’ the title track of the record heads back out into marginally heavier pastures with a bouncing bass line from Leigh Brown filling in the space left by the guitar on the verse while the chorus hits like a velvet boxing glove thanks to the heavy yet hypnotic riff unleashed by Michael. ‘Dead inside’ is equally powerful but better is the brilliant ‘save my breath’ which captures the band in full flight and which will undoubtedly light up the band’s live shows in October. Melodic, with a stunning vocal performance and beautifully phrased guitar work, it’s the sort of hard rock anthem that deserves to put Tracer firmly on the map. ‘All in my head’ is a softer moment – albeit with plenty of heavy guitar work in the chorus – that gives a nod to the Screaming Trees before the final track ‘won’t let it die (run Mary)’ rounds things out with a bluesy, smoky number that has atmosphere and attitude in equal measure.
With a somewhat overcrowded market it takes something truly special to excel in the field of hard rock at the moment and Tracer have that something special in spades. In Michael Brown the band have a prodigious guitarist and a gutsy, talented singer, while the rhythm section of Leigh Brown and Andre Wise play no mere second fiddle– Andre’s percussion is solid and engaging throughout while Leigh’s bass lines and backing vocals offer plenty to the mix. Moreover this is very obviously a strong band effort from a group of musicians who have had time to travel and develop together making ‘spaces in between’ a strong, cohesive album with plenty to admire and no obvious flaws. Notably the band also produced the album, and it is clear that they understand clearly the sound their music deserves with the mix offering plenty of fire without one element ever over-powering another. To put it simply, if you enjoy engaging, classic-sounding hard rock with a strong contemporary edge and memorable songs then this excellent record is for you.

Review by Dan Balchin
Tracer hail from Australia and seem to have hit the ground running with their grunge inspired vocals and hard rock riffs from the vault of 70’s icons. It is unbelievable that this group are only a three piece, as from the offset the volume and power of their music is larger than life.
‘Too Much’ comes first on the album and pulls you inside the heart of Tracer, as you find yourself experiencing a band who have a remarkable ability to turn what some might consider simple patterns and licks, into something special. ‘Devil Ride’ and ‘The Bitch’ follow in close succession, with the latter capturing the youthful energy and spirit of a band who are out to make an impression on the world. Interestingly, listening to them makes it that I find myself not comparing them directly to artists of times gone by, because they have a unique delivery which allows them to stand away from the pack.
The longest track on the album comes in the form of ‘Voice In The Rain’, which encompasses beautiful arrangements and a carefully considered balance of clean and distortion work equally. The grunge inspired vocals couldn’t be demonstrated more than on ‘Save My Breath’, where Chris Cornell would be given a run for his money by Tracer vocalist, Michael Brown.
‘Spaces In Between’ was immediately captivating. Do yourself a favour and discover this band now before they go global.
8/10 - Sonic Shocks
Young lads Tracer quite simply blew the audience away with their grandiose sound with influences from AC/DC to Queens Of The Stone Age. Their set was as intriguing as their party tricks (guitars played behind heads and drums played backwards), which received much praise along with the frontman's fierce guitar work and the band's perfect amount of likeable arrogance. For three people, they certainly made an impression and a racket.

Local band Tracer are getting ready to showcase their new album with a launch that includes Raw Ether and Bolty Bolt Bolt & The Boltons at the Crown & Anchor. Things don’t end there either, with the Adelaide Uni O’Ball and interstate tours locked in plus a European tour for six months. Guitarist and vocalist Michael Brown is excited about the impending tour and the release of LA?.
“It’s wicked,” Michael begins. “LA? was a long time in the making but we all eventually got there. We’re all really stoked with it.”
Is it even more exciting now with Tracer’s burgeoning fanbase not just here in Adelaide?
“I guess so, but I think we still look and see ourselves as just a band. It’s one of those things that we’ve always known it’s in us to do something as good and spend time in the studio to nail out the songs. I think it’s been one of the things that we’ve wanted to do but never have had the time or money to do it. Now that it’s come around we’re stoked that we’ve done it and hope it gets in front of a few more people.”
How much time was spent on developing the visual concept for the album?
“I’m a graphic designer and I did all the artwork for the cover and the website and everything like that. We did get a painter to paint the art on the front cover but in terms of planning this album it started back in May with some pre-production and perfecting the songs. Part of the process included recording the album before going into the studio on our home Pro Tools set up so when we got in the studio we only would have to worry about the performances. In between mixing we started to throw around the visual concepts, which came together when the painter got involved and at that point I had a basic idea of what I wanted.”
Do you feel this album challenged the band?
“Totally. We looked at what other professional musicians do and it did stretch us. I think we did put a lot of time in to listing what our favourite albums do in regards to production and then see how our music fits in with different types of production. Then we focused on methods of recording and what we were doing and it was awesome fun. We had so much vintage gear, new mics and old mics and I got to play on 15 different guitars – it was a blast in the studio. I can’t wait to be able to do it again.”
When you mentioned that the recording sessions were focused on just the performance, were you worried about not firing on all fours or gear stuffing up?
“That sort of thing is bound to happen. I think you can only plan so much but we had rehearsed our stuff so much that if a take wasn’t happening we’d move on to the next song – you just have to work through it.”
Heading to Europe for six months sounds like a major turning point for the band?
“It’s all happening. Also we’ve got the Rock Dog showcase for Fuse and the O’Ball followed by a launch in Melbourne. It is all guns blazing for Europe in August and the plan is to come back home when we’ve run out of money.”
Tracer launch LA? at the Crown & Anchor on Fri Feb 13 with guests Raw Ether and Bolty Bolt Bolt & The Boltons. - Rip It Up Magazine
As a long time fan of stoner rock and grunge, I knew from the opening track End of the Samurai I was going to fucking love this album. Tracer’s debut album L.A.? has found a permanent home in my stereo. I swear I have listened to this from start to finish at least five times and am yet to hear one part that doesn’t make me play air guitar while leaping off my lounge. This is a flawless, perfectly executed half hour pummelling full of complex, melodic riffs and relentless, uncompromising vocals.
Musically, the first six songs are an even blend of the stoner riffs reminiscent of early Queens of the Stone Age and an 80’s metal crunch that almost verges on Black Sabbath. The seventh track, Sleep by the Fire, is nothing short of an electric guitar masterpiece. I can only assume guitarist Michael Brown is the original creator of the instrument, and has in fact been secretly laying down riffs and solos for every band I have loved for the past two decades. Seriously, this reviewer had creamed himself by about the fourth or fifth solo on this album. Epic.
Vocals by brothers Leigh and Michael Brown are nothing short of brutal. Think of a more raspy and masculine Chris Cornell of early Soundgarden, then double it. I have no doubt this album captures the raw intensity of each singer’s vocal style, and am disbelief that the vocals could get any better when performed live.
Normally at this point in a review I would list some stand out tracks and tell you why. Not for Tracer, the entire album stands by itself and needs no single track to hold it together. If you do want to get a feel for their sound, I do recommend playing lead single Wrecking Ball, as it is the only song falling under four minutes and wil probably be the track that will makes it way to the radio.
Lastly, this reviewer feels the need to draw attention to the exceptional album production for this unsigned Adelaide trio. I can honestly say I haven’t heard such a slick, professional sounding recording for a debut album for quite some time. Complete respect to Tracer, and everyone who has supported them on this record. See you at your next gig. - www.thedwarf.com.au

Magdeburg, September 16th, 2009
Michael Brown is Tracer’s singer, guitar player, manager and man with thousand different hair styles. We met on his 24th birthday on September 16 in Magdeburg and got to know why Tracer is in Europe instead of Los Angeles, why sleeping in the back of a van is not a bad thing and why they might even get a new permanent address in Berlin.
Michael, we’re talking on the second day of the Great Australian Wave-tour. How was the start?
The first day was pretty good. The crowd was a bit down, but all the bands were really cool and we got the chance to meet everybody and say G’day. So that was good. But we’ve been here for about a month anyway, touring around.
It’s your 24th birthday today. Happy birthday and all the best for you…
Thank you – Danke!
…and the obvious question: How is like to celebrate your birthday so far away from your loved ones and from most of your family – with the exception of your brother?
It’s OK. I mean – it’d be nice to spend it with my family, but being in the middle of Germany is bloody fantastic. Not everybody has the chance to celebrate his 24th birthday playing in a rock band touring around Germany. So it’s very exciting for me.
Many people have a bit of a problem to describe your style of rock music precisely. There are comparisons even with Silverchair, maybe because you are three young guys as well…
Yeah, Silverchair. They are a cool Australian band, we love them. But we’re more into I guess what you call the “stoner rock”-bands. We’re not into that whole scene really, but we like Soundgarten and the 90s bands, Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age – these are the bands we are fans of.
But there’s also a bit of 70s in the music.
Very much – I mean we’re big fans of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or Deep Purple.
Was it by purpose that you - let’s say – “mixed” those decades musically or was it something you found out while you were playing?
My brother and I were part of band in Australia since we were 13 and 10. We were a blues band and we got really into the blues and found out all about the old blues guys. I guess the 70s opened up a new door to the blues with Jimmy Hendrix and all those sorts of people. I guess we just progressed from that and ended up with everybody that was into that in the 90s and hence Tracer came to be.
Is this the first time you are touring around Europe for a longer time?
Yeah, the first time! We’ve been here for a month and we’ll be here until January. So all up it’s a five months tour and we’re taking in Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
Do you have a bit of a “homebase” in Europe?
Yeah, our drummers auntie lives in Switzerland and she’s given us a place to stay there, which is very good. She feeds us as well, which is good because we’ve got no money. But my brother and I have some family in the UK, so hopefully we’ll be out there have some dinner with them sometimes.
Some of the other nights you sleep in your van?
Yeah, we’ve got a Renault van we called Nessie, we built a bed in the back. So all three of us get cozy in there and sleep next to each other in the back of the van, which is very comfortable. But that’s only when we can’t find any other place to stay. You know, we do what we have to do. We just want to play music in front of new people. If that means sleeping in the back of a van for five months, so it’ll be it.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean that there are no “new people” in Australia that don’t know Tracer yet?
True. But the reason why we came to Europe is that you can travel short distances and be in a town that is bigger than any town in Australia. It is very expensive to tour in Australia – and the music that we play is more well received over here in Germany and other parts of Europe. So we decided to save our money and come up over here and see what we can do. In Australia we have a good following in our hometown and a little following in the next big town. But the next big town from us is eight hours away – if you drive eight hours here you’ve been through two countries and twenty big cities…
You live in Adelaide, so the next big town should be Melbourne. Wouldn’t it have been better to settle over to Melbourne or maybe Sydney – to a place where there is a more lively music scene than it is in Adelaide?
We were going to that actually. Last year we decided we were going to Melbourne. Then we thought again and said ‘Well, if we are going to Melbourne and spent a lot of money living over there – we might as well spend a little more money and come over to Europe and see what we can do here’. I know a lot of American bands do the same. They say, Europeans like live music and back at home we tend to do what the Americans do, which is go out clubbing, and that doesn’t mix very well with our style of music. So we came over here and see how things are working. If we like it we might even stay here.
In Germany we think about Australia as a “rock nation”. Everybody has a guitar and just “rocks”. You said that your music isn’t received as well in Australia as it is in Europe. Why do think it is like that?
I assume it is because Australians follow popular music from wherever it comes from, we follow trends rather than listen for ourselves. And I think people in Europe know what they like rather than being forced to listen to something. Maybe that’s the case, maybe we tried the wrong places – but I don’t think so. We’ve played in Berlin twice and both times everybody really loved the music. So maybe we found a place that we’re happy with.
Your album is called “L.A.”, with question mark behind. Why?
That’s another reason. We were either going to move to Melbourne, come to Europe or move to LA. We decided against LA, beause a lot of people who have been there that we have known tell us that is more a town for “wanna-be-rock-stars” and “wanna-be-movie-stars”. We thought if that’s the culture there we don’t want to be part of it. And “LA” with the question mark to us means: Is LA really the place people need to go to make a name for themselves.
So you don’t want to part of LA-Scene. What about the Australian scene?
Oh, we’re into it – but it is very difficult to get into it. There is a nice stoner-rock scene in Melbourne, but is very small compared to here. What we’re looking for is a label or manager or booker or something like that, because I think there is place for the music that Tracer plays. It’s just trying to find that place. And in Australia it is very difficult to tour around because the distances are so vast and it costs a lot of money and we don’t have a lot of cash because we don’t have label backing or anything like that.
Which means that the plans for the future should be to find a label and a booking agent…
…and a manager, so that I don’t have to do all the work. This is difficult, but at least brings us to nice places. I mean: The culture here is fantastic, and we never felt more at home playing music than we have over here in Europe.
You do a lot work over social communities like Facebook or Myspace. How important is that part of let’s call it Web-Marketing to you?
A lot! It’s the key. It’s the absolute key. Whenever we have day off all three of us spent ten hours on our laptops trying to find new fans and get them to our shows, trying to find new gigs, trying to find labels. Without the internet this tour wouldn’t have happened. I never called anybody. It was all done by e-mail, Facebook and Myspace. So without the internet we'd be stuffed. - www.musik.australische-kultur.de
Berlin.
Herausragend dabei die bereits vom Lamplight-Album bekannten Stücke „Ship in a bottle“ und „A sun that will not rise“.
Nahezu das komplette Album „It’s too late for turning back“ wurde dort präsentiert und bereits mit dem Opener „The world was a beautiful place“ wusste man, wo die Reise hingeht: Das war perfekt gemachte, sehr gefühlvolle Pop-Musik mit sinnvoller Message.

Can this really work? The idea is brilliant: You take three bands, bands that probably never met each other before because they make totally different kinds of music, and you let them play together because of the simple reason that they all come from the same county, that is Australia.
Not three rock bands, not three songwriters, not three pop-groups, but one out of every genre.
The courage to do something like this is not easy to find, but Steve Iorio had it. Under the name “Great Australian Wave” he organized a new music-event to take the place of the cancelled event Popkomm.
The same man, Steve Iorio, gave ozmusic.de the chance to follow the entire story, and in that way left the doors open for us, meaning: we were present by the sound check, all through trip and also after the shows, this gave us the opportunity to get a good picture of how the bands played but also how they interacted with each other afterwards.
The last mentioned was especially interesting in our German eyes: Every musician was open for the music of the other. Also when said “this not necessarily the music I have to listen to every day” The people all agreed that there was no question about it, this was really good music, every single one of the three bands.
Mijo Biscan was the one to start this colorful mix off. Mijo does leading vocals for the band Lamplight, at least that´s what I thought when I met him, but in the interview he made it clear to me that Lamplight is a band with a slightly unclear future.
The singer wants to spend at least a part of the year in Berlin; also he is in the process of writing a lot of new songs.
The question that interested me the most was if it really is possible for Mijo alone, to create the same musical feeling he does with his entire band, with only an acoustic guitar. He tells me it`s enough to write the songs but that it often results in the songs being worked over pretty much later on with the band.
The week before, Mijo toured Germany as opening act for the, in Australia famous, Clare Bowditch. He got used to performing without a band, and according to himself, learned a lot from Clare.
He surprised with a missing beard and a new haircut. All in all it gave a fresh impression which matched well with the music. You could really see it on him that he enjoyed telling his stories, or rather singing them. It is thoughtful and deep-going music, lifted up by the impressive voice of this young Man from Melbourne (and Berlin).
A couple of songs that stick out are “ship in a bottle” and “A sun that will not rise”, both known from the Lamplight-album. The last mentioned song takes care of the subject casting shows a la “Deutschland sucht den superstar” (Germanys Idol) or “Australian Idol”. Never does the text get mean in any way or bash the subject , no, it`s the middle tones that make it interesting, foremost the musical ones. Off course they come to light better with the band backing the song up, but Mijo Biscan succeeds in presenting the song in a impressive way.
That you can await new music from him is something the song ”I don`t want to miss you” proofed, a love song that obviously touched many people in the audience.
As opening act it can be hard to get the audience to really listen. But it wasn`t a problem for Mijo Biscan because the songs were interesting. Songs where it`s really worth to listen to the words being sung.
After a short break to change equipment Worldfly came onto the stage.??Worldfly are often filled with surprises because they can play with a constantly changing band on stage: you`ll see them in a trio with acoustic guitar, cello and drums. Then suddenly electric guitar and bass guitar might join, and if the mood is right maybe even some percussion. Every formation creates its own mood and has its own arrangements to make sure that a show with Worldfly never sounds the same as the last one.
In Berlin you could witness Worldfly live with all of the bands six members, including percussion. The applauding when the band entered the stage made it clear that most people were foremost there to see Worldfly live, end they didn`t go home disappointed.
Almost the entire Album “it`s too late for turning back” was presented, and already with the opening song you knew where this trip was going: It was perfect, emotional pop-music with a meaningful message.
To see the cooperation of the six people on stage was impressive. Even if the drums were a bit too loud sometimes or the guitar could have needed a bit more room, Worldfly managed to pull the audience with them.
You could witness the people either dancing along or just being purely amazed by the wonderful melodies delivered by Worldfly. Unlike many other “our-music-has-an-important-message-bands” Worldfly knows how not to bore the audience. The dynamic of the songs it constantly changing together with the instrumental part, this makes even an entire hour with Worldfly seem as if it passed too fast.
The show is rounded up to the stories behind the songs by Michael. He tells them in a mix of German and English, and is probably positively surprised himself by how many people from the audience who really do pay attention.
Musically, Worldfly were perfect. They showed that pop-music doesn`t automatically have to be flat and without any deeper message. Songs like “Someone special”, “A small boat” or “Beautiful place” has real single-potential and could, without a doubt be rotating around 70% of all German radio stations.
It was not to be mistaken: On the stage are people who ”want”. They want to show their music. They want to be played in the radio. They want up on the bigger stages. And everyone in the audience will be sure, that after a show like this, it is exactly what they will succeed with. The show they played will in a short time make people who were there say: “Worldfly? Yeah, I know them since those times they still used to play in small bars”
Then everything became loud.
Tracer entered the stage and the dreamy flower-power feeling was kicked out.?To me Tracer was the biggest surprise of the evening. Don`t get me wrong, the other two acts were amazing. But that`s also what you could expect from Mijo Biscan after listening through the album from Lamplight once. Also when it comes to Worldfly it`s no surprise that they`re really good live.
My personal attitude towards Tracer was more like this: “Ok, another three guys in the age of 20-something who want to be loud and noisy, Yeah, thanks been there done that” I was positive that it would take 20-something seconds before Tracer made me want to leave the room.
So much for my prejudices. I stayed because Tracer are unbelievable.
Something is happening between the first and second step in the stairs to the stage, something is being installed, or changed. The three friendly, polite and almost shy young men turn into wild music-animals whose level of adrenalin is almost hitting the roof of the room. There is energy pure from first to last note, they do their thing so good it`s practically impossible not to go along with it. Drummer Andre plays his drums as if it`s not that important that they are still functional the next day. Bass player Leigh hammers the bass so hard it fills the entire room and you find yourself asking why this young man isn`t constantly running around with bandages on his fingers. Michael, the singer is in full control of all kinds of emotional displays, he whispers, sings, shouts and screams and on top of that he just “happens” to be playing the guitar.
And it is not at all the kind of “wall” of eardrum-blowing noise I had been expecting. This is music and Tracer knows what they are doing, the songs are well-structured and pure. Grunge-rock meets rock from the 70`s and they even throw in a hint of Blues. The label Stoner-Rock that this colorful mix got, doesn`t really give it what it deserves.
Tracer offers us songs from their Album “L.A.?” All of the songs are delivered with much more energy and power than on the Album. They also play some new songs. When you for example hear “Voice in the rain” you realize that these young gentlemen from Adelaide still have a lot of gunpowder to shoot with.
After more than three hours the concert is over that took me on a trip through all kinds of different styles of music. Three acts and every single one of them found their own way to spellbound the audience. This concert showed what a high-quality and variation there is to get from the Australian music-scene. Most of the people will leave and ask themselves why we don´t get to hear more of this kind of music here. We will wish for it, and we will definitely wish for mijo Biscan, Worldfly and Tracer. - www.musik.australische-kultur.de

Bio
Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Tracer is a sonic sledgehammer of sound, steeped in epic guitars, thunderous riffs and raw, uncompromising vocals. Their Australian blend of 90’s stoner and 70’s classic rock continues to win over crowds worldwide.
Tracer has captured the excitement and adrenalin rush of rock’n’roll. Tracer’s sound embodies the same raw dynamics and edge to that of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age and Black Sabbath.
This year saw Tracer complete their fourth successful European tour, headlining a string of dates in the UK before heading over to the mainland for eight weeks for supports slots with Black Label Society, Gojira and Triggerfinger, Tracer also had the honour of opening the mainstage at the 2012 Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium.
With the release of Spaces in Between, Tracer has attracted rave reviews and interviews in Classic Rock (New Band of the Month), Total Guitar, Rock Sound, Guitarist, Fireworks and Powerplay. Their video for Too Much has attracted over 80,000 hits on YouTube. In the tradition of three-piece rock bands like Nirvana and Motorhead, Tracer’s sound is the audio equivalent to a Tarantino film set inside the eye of a hurricane.
When Tracer supported Royal Republic on their 2011 European tour, it soon became evident that Tracer was the band to watch. When the UK’s premiere classic rock radio station, Planet Rock started playing the band’s rock anthem Too Much in 2012, listeners responded with Tracer's first UK headline show in London attracting a capacity crowd on opening night.
Rising from the ashes of blues prodigy band The Brown Brothers in 2004, Michael (vocals, guitar) and Leigh Brown (vocals, bass) teamed up with drummer Andre Wise to form Tracer.
Following a debut European tour in late 2009, Tracer returned overseas in September 2010 to take a coveted showcase slot at Germany’s PopKomm Music Conference in Berlin. The band embarked on a string of dates throughout Germany, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK, taking time off only to sign a record deal with Cool Green Recordings, a sub label of the Mascot Label Group.
Upon returning to Adelaide, the band headed straight into the studio, and recorded what was to be their debut album, Spaces In Between, released October 2011.
