Katie has a very whimsical side to her that I love. The sweetness of Leigh Nash's (Sixpence None the Richer) voice but rotated 45 degrees and a little off center, just very very fun. Her music doesn't take itself too seriously... and the lyrics, even when they are silly, there's always a very sharp emotional edge to them. I'm a huge huge fan of her stuff. - PASTE Magazine
Katie Herzig'’s 2006 CD "Weightless" is an enchanting piece of dreamy indie pop featuring imaginative, offbeat arrangements and Herzig’'s angelic, at times elfin voice.” - Nashville Scene
Originally the lead singer of Colorado-based band Newcomer's Home, Herzig is now a Nashville-based solo artist who is releasing her second independent CD, "Weightless," this week.
Even though she's no stranger to many of Nashville's finest outside-the-row writers like Kate York and tonight's opener Jeremy Lister who loudly sing her praises, Herzig had somehow escaped ATR's ears until now. After hearing only a handful of songs from the CD, it's love at first listen. We couldn't be more impressed with what she has accomplished on "Weightless."
Like the title suggests, the songs float and fall out of the speakers, urged on by strummy acoustic guitars, hazy background vocals and pastoral pop melodies, but Herzig's deeply enchanting voice gives this album all the weight it needs and keeps any of it from slipping into the ''lite.'' If you have any Sarah Harmer, Lisa Germano, Rosie Thomas or the like in your collection, you need this album. - Nashville Rage
“Katie Herzig, the familiar face and voice behind the now-defunct Newcomers Home, is on to something hot with her solo career. In her short set June 30 at the Walnut Room, which had her visiting from her new home in Nashville, she romanced the crowd with familiar songs from her past (both solo and band tracks) while nodding to an exciting future: "We'll be filming a video for this song in L.A. soon," she said before leading into an affable track that showcased her radio-ready voice with aplomb. But the song that followed, "Sweeter Than This," is a piece of songwriting that should easily get her onto AAA radio.
Her imagination and desire - not to mention her skillful musicianship - deserve praise and, more important, airplay.” - Denver Post

Bio
From even the first note of a Katie Herzig tune, you know you've stumbled into something special. She just has a way with a song. Maybe it's the way she juxtaposes lyrical playfulness and whimsy with incredibly thoughtful depth and emotion. Maybe it's her stunning, delicately powerful voice. Maybe it's the sonic landscape that pulls from every direction. Doesn't really matter. The captivating effect is in full force.
Katie began her career while in college as the lead singer for Boulder-based Newcomers Home. That experience lasted for eight years and took her all across the US. The band released four solid CDs that sold some 15,000 copies and built them a loyal fan base. Not bad for a bunch of Colorado upstarts.
From that foundation, Katie set fully out on her own blazing the path with her 2005 solo debut 'Watch Them Fall.' Produced with Chris Coleman, it's chock full of tender acoustic renderings that reveal the emotional inner-workings of a seeker of truth and love.
Not wasting any momentum or time, Katie moved to Nashville in 2006 and offered up 'Weightless' which was self-recorded/produced and mixed by Gary Paczosa (Grammy-winning engineer/producer for Alison Krauss, Mindy Smith, and Nickel Creek). From the delightful romps that kick it off to the mesmerizing heart aches that slip in toward the end, it's a powerful journey that must be taken. If "Diamond Ring" doesn't haunt you for days, you better check your pulse. You might actually be dead.
In support of 'Weightless,' Katie has opened shows for The Fray and Kim Richey, while also making time for the PASTE Songwriters tour with Jeremy Lister, Sandra McCracken, and Matthew Perryman Jones. To take matters even further, Katies song Heavens My Home was nominated for a 2007 Grammy for Best Country Performance by the Duhks. She has also had TV placements on various shows including "Smallville" and ER.
Wondering who her influences are? You just have to listen, for Katie's style begs a definition of its own.
